View Full Version : polishing your cars
does anyone one here have an electric buffer, and are they worth the money?
or do you just take it off with a soft cloth?
put it on with electric orbital thing, take off by hand, with soft microfibre cloth. Yes they are definately worth the money, much easier to keep everything consistent, much easier too!
you put it on with it i thought you take it off??
i have one from halfords its amazin. half as much work,, twice the results
i will find out, i let my mate do my car, as he does a couple each weekend at like 150 quid a car!
If i want my car polished i just have to pay for materials!
Yeah definately on with electric orbital thing, and off by hand!

what someone charges £150 to polish a car!! surely not:shock:
is that not 150 to get it mop'd?
you have to wash your car the day before, then for 150 you get
2 stage polish - involves doing it twice, and i think the polish is something stupid like 40 quid a bottle
scratch removal if needed
6 coats of wax
Wheels cleaned and 2 coats of wax, plus some sealant
And any plastic work doing with bumper care etc. also all glass polised. oh and exhaust cleaned.
Think thats everything. Cars do look amazing afterwards!! Takes a whole day to do a car. I know of some people that do it for a living and charge a lot more!!!
i dont really know what a bodyshop does when they mop your car, hw just does it at home in his garage as some extra money. Works 9-5 during the week

i wouldnt use a polisher everytime you wash the car as it wears away at the lacquer on panel edges
yeah i agree, i only have my car polished twice a year
bunch of pansy's using an electric buffer :P hehe
All u need is a applicator pad to apply it on the car then a couple of microfibre cloths to rub it off, by the way i'm very impressed with meguires NXt gen wax, used it on saturday and even after it pissed down on sunday the car was looking great
I have an electric rotary polisher... £12.99 from aldi

That is shocking! I'll take a pic of my one tonight and post it up so you can see what a proper one looks like!
i want a porter pc polisher, which is what professionals use to detail your car. cost around £250 but give a better than new finish.
ive tried the cheap and nasty halfords orbital polisher and its relatively pointless. i'd rather do it by hand. the other machine polishers which look like angle grinders are ok, but generally are too aggressive - unless your paint is knackered.

That is what my friend has got. Got it cheaper by getting it from america tho.

i also want a porter cable polisher, these get rid of the swirl marks etc and leave your car in showroom condition. The cheapest i have seen them is £170, that is importing them from america, they are safe to use aswell for beginners.

I cant believe they charge £150, i did next doors boxster for £50 and that was a full clean plus polish! maybe i should up the price!
any professional detailing company will charge around £150. not only have they got their wages and time, but also income tax, corporation tax, vehicle expenses, advertising costs. ultimately going to get what you pay for.
you can only buy the PC polisher from america, but some UK sites do advertise them. autotopia is an excellent site, where most get bought from.
