I heard this morning on BBC1 breakfast show that all the World Cup matches are to be broadcasted in High Definnition (HD), does this mean that unless i have a HD ready tv i wont be able to watch the matches?
No. its like if its broadcast in 16:9 widescreen people without widescreen tvs can still watch it. but people with widescreen will get a better picture or something.
ain't that on that new sky sports channel "sky sports hd" tho?
HD is a way of tv-working. sony HD tvs

my TVs HD looks the same as any old tv to me
To get HDTV you need the following
HD Ready television
HD set top boxes
HD services from satellite or cable providers
the BBC is offering HDTV via telewest cable service only at the moment, without any of thoses three things you will only recive normal TV pictures

Ah....that why sky are doin a 'free sky',like free view...i get it...so HD is just like widescreen
hd is not like widescreen, it carries a much higher line of resolution to your tv, hence why even if u had a sony hd tv it is only in hd when hooked up to a hd source such as sky hd.

I know that...what i meant is its like widescreen cos even if u dont have a widescreen TV u can still watch summit in widescreen, its just not as good.
yea i see what your getting at, even if somone like the BBC are transmiting a HDTV signal everyone with out HDTV will still get 'basic' TV images

yeah but cum 2008 you'll have to have a digital tv to recive a signal...i get it now.
and digital tv signals are differnt to hd signals. So for when they swicth off the analog signal all you need is a freeview box, like 40 quid. But wont get hd!

riteeeee
To put it simply HDTV (or High Definition TV) has an increased resolution 4 times greater then SDTV (or Standard Definition TV). This allows for greater detail and a crisp picture. HDTV is generally of higher quality then a standard DVD and Sky picture (unless HD channels). HD is actually a completely independant TV signal which you will not even be able to view with out a HDTV
