hi, iv got a pritty much standard 06plate 1.4 sxi+ twinport and i have recently put 17"rs5 lensos to the car. They rubb pritty much everytime i use the car, especially on the passengers side when i have a passenger. Will the rubbing cause any damage to my arches? or tyres? and what can i do resolve this....

Help us out guys!!!!!

heres a pic of my rear wheel sitting nicely...

long term yes i think it does cause damage (plus doesnt sound very nice) what offset is your wheels?? cause would only rub if you got the wrong offset! i got 17s and lowered 30mm and i dont any rubbing even with a full car!!

your suspension is standard? thats amazing if its rubbing, you have been sold the totally wrong offset wheel mate, you want a et 45 or et 42 wheel, your must be about et 35 or something. Get them changed, you cant even lower it if its like that.

Thats mines down about 50mm on 18s, and its not rubbing, because they are the right offset. and because i took a hammer to the inside of the arches, but thats another story, lol.

Ok, well i got spacers on my front so that the lensos could fit on over the caliper. I spoke to a guy at halfords today and he said it aint no biggy really. so i aint gonna fuss over it. Looking to get some new suspension soon anyways.

The wheels are a outset of 42, but had 5mm spacers on the front!!!!

It is a biggy cos at high speeds the tyre could blow out.

cant u get some smaller spacers? 2mm?

Looking at the gap between the calipers and the wheels at the mom, cant be more than 1mm. Its well tight. Iv got vented discs on the front andf the 06 corsa i have has got bigger calipers than the 1.2s apparently??????

yep thats right.

youll never be able to lower it with those wheels.

cut away at some of the arch and itll be ok unlowred.

if you wanna lower i suggest selling those wheels and getting some others in et45

Wow what a bummer!!! Well i aint to bothered bout lowering the car at this early stage, so ill keep the alloys for a little while longer and continue using it (but going easy not to fly over speed bumps).
By the way partridge88, what back box is that? It sound nice?

if you take a grinder to the holder part of the calipers its rubing on you'll fit without spacers

iv got 18's and lowered 30 and only recently (due to me taking a screw out of the front bumper) has the front Offside wheel been rubbing, iv had the Rear arches trimmed and the bolts shaved off aswell.

I went to PVS last weekend with the rubbing so its not such a big prob, covered 360 miles in 2 days at national speedlimit. The wheel will slowly trim back whatever is rubbing against it but it isnt really recommended.

Bet your performance has gone down the pan with them 18s, let alone if you did want 19s. I noticed a few flat spots on my performance with 17s, as in acceleration up long hills.

But when your car is eventually complete, its gonna look sweet and performance isnt really the issue then (not that a 1.0 has alot of performance:|)
