hey im having mega problems with distortion on my 6x9's, i know they are connected right and that the head unit can provide enough power, have the 6x9's connected to original wires by connector blocks, could this be contributing to the problem or just poor wire conditioning, starting to really annoy me now :(

How long have you had the 6x9's? If they are new and you have pushed them too much too soon you may have fried the speakers coils so they will result in poor sound quality.

Ya have to make sure the wires are connected proper.. The + and - Connections do matter.. so if u have connected the wires on the 6x9's to the wrong leads coming from the front, then that could be a problem.. (and it is very common)
If not, when yer turning it up check the bass levels, and turn off the Bass boost if the HU has it, 6x9's HATE bass boost, and that is an issue with distorting 6x9's.
It'd doubtful that you have wrecked em, if yer wiring them direct from the HU.
Bad Wire conditioning would mean crackles and pops in the sound.
