Last saturday i spent £200 on a pair of rear 6x9 150 watts apline model and front 13 cm 170 watt kenwood model speakers, the shop fitted it for me, but anyway i was testing it, it seem to sound just the same as the standard corsa speakers? i was expecting a lil bit more bass
anyway one of my friends told me i should have really got something around 250 watts for the rear speakers(and i noticed the speakers start to strain and distort a lil when i put the volume near enough to the max), so i went to the shop today to ask him if i could exchange them but he told me not to bother because it wouldnt make any difference (he said watts dont really mean much), i told him i was only after bass and he suggested i should get a sub & amp
now the thing is, is he telling the truth or am i just being paranoid?
i'm really looking for extremly loud bass, the type that can be heard down the road
Firstly your friend is talking bollocks
If your running of the standard headunit, your going to notice no difference.
and if you want bass 2 12" subs and a big ass amp will do the job

yeah ditch the rears get a decent headunit and 2x12" subs
i have 2x12" and it turns heads when turned up (mostly so people can give you disapproving looks), so if thats your thing then go for it, mine are in a sealed box so if you get a box that is ported and correctly tuned and you can get a lot more out of them
I'd take the speakers you have just bought back, and spend the full £200 on some front components, then put a sub of your choice in.
I only have front speakers in my c, and a sub in the boot... sounds awesome.
Makes to look at for front speakers : Audiosystem/Focal/Rainbow
Just my 2 cents =)
Alternatively, the speakers in the doors to start with aren't too bad, and with a decent headunit / sub + amp, it sounds O.K.
It depends on your budget...

i have the same.
Pioneer X1R headunit
Alpine Type R 10" sub.
Farenheit Amp
Standard components in doors.
The door speakers sound 1000x better with the aftermarket headunit. when i can afford new ones, i will buy them.
For now it doesnt sound too bad tho :)
patrick mate if you want bass that is gunna turn head your gunna have to get sub and amp, un amped speakers will not be loud enough so the only option is an amped sub!!

ur front speakers shouldnt have any bass coming thru them, as there more the mid range! ur 6x9s shud provide a small bit of bass, but i would filter the bass off the speakers, and put in a sub :D much better! Don't buy fusion or mutant or any of that bollox, if ur trying to save space a vibe sub (either with or without built in amp) is a good call or a fli sub
if u just want pure raw power of bass i wud get a alpine type r omg they are amazing talkin from personal expereince.
