HI, im running a JBL 1000w Peak 12" Sub (Around 300rms) and a JBL 400w Amp. When I listen loud-ish the sub seems to go off, miss a few beats and then come back on again. I was told this was because there was not enough voltage gettin to the amp causing it to go off on heavy bass kicks, is this accurate? If it is would a power capacitor fix this problem and would I be able to push the sub harder after fitting a power cap by turning up the gain on the amplifier without the bass cutting out?
Thanks, Craig
Aye,
the cap acts as a temporary reserve of power. When the sub/amp demands more than the battery can provide, the cap helps out by usinf it's reserve of power. This could well be the answer to your prblems. Speak to Sounds Alraming (0191 232 0800) in Newcastle, and they should sort you out. tell them Paul, Stu's mate sent you and you will be looked after.

What size power cable are you running as it doesn't seem like a situation that would cause problems with current draw, is it the only amp in the vehicle?

It is the only amp im running in the vehicle (at the minute) im looking to add more and a couple of 10" subs to my install very soon. Im usin the Autoleads PC4-20 wiring kit cuz i bought the sub, amp, box and wires as a package deal from caraudiosecurity.com a while back.

Surely one amp and sub isnt going to take all the power??
I am running a rockford mono sub amp, and a lareg Kenwood amp for the whole system and have no probs with power.
Could be a loose connection somewhere and when you are hammering the bass its coming unconnected.
Try looking at the lights on the amp when its at high volume. If the light goes from normal to a different colour then its the amp cutting out.

i know the lights on the amp stay in the green but only just, I think it could be the battery cuz Ive had the battery light come on once before after running the sub along side lights, windscreen wipers and the heater. I dunno :(
