Pioneer are good quality stuff matey. i would say go for a pioneer HU id u like them and then Alpine or infinity Speakers. Infinity are the cheaper of the 2 but not quite as good as Alpine. also take al ook at my Pioneer sub its only at 99p n ebay :D http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5727683055&ssPage Name

If you have a sub, get rid of those 6x9s!

Okay...this is where it comes down to "whats doing more for me?"
Now, 6x9s were invented because back in the dark ages, a pair of 12in subs required a enclosure of some 4cu.ft. minimum. So what you did was buy 6x9s, low-pass them, and keep your boot space :)
If you have a subwoofer, 6x9s become a bit of a waste of space/money. Why? Because if your sub is low-passed like it should be (at around 100-120Hz, depends on what sub you've got) and your 6x9s are equally low-passed for bass then you're not going to hear one over the other.
But if you have your 6x9s high-passed, then I ask, "Why?" You're front speakers should be high-passed! The reason for this is that bass is omnidirectional, meaning you cannot tell which direction it originates from. However, due to the human ear, everything above the third octave (midbass) can be detected by location. Therefore, if your rears are high-passed and by some miracle you can hear them over your sub...you can tell they are behind you. Whats the point? Well, the whole reason for me stating this paragraph is this: go to the bathroom, look in the mirror. Which way are your ears facing? FORWARDS! Yes, they face forwards for a reason- and because of this, we hear sound better if it is infront of us (providing its not in the first or second octave remember) If you go to a concert, the band is infront of you, not behind or to the side, because it sounds better this way. Not because I say so, but because of the phsyiology of the human body.
Of course, I'm assuming that your 6x9s are mounted in your parcel shelf? Disconnect them and see how it sounds with just your front speakers and the sub. Imagine how much more money you could have spent on your front speakers if you didn't buy the 6x9s...
But if you're happy with how it sounds, well done. After all, you have to listen to it.

why does it matter where the sound comes from as long as it sounds good?

Because it sounds better in certain locations

personnally its sounds wierd without the 6x9s. ive tried every combination and thats what works best. it sounds better cause of the dolby surround on my head unit. and my speakers dont drown out my sub at all. you must be running the setting on your head unit wrong or to many wires running next to each other. ever had a problem with the sounds ive got. just want some ideas on what i could do for my next ICE install.
