A new battery, a power cap or BOTH??

Was just reading audio one's comments on another topic, was just about to hi jack the thread then decided to make my own :P

I amm currently running one JL Sub and amp, and two interior neons. No problems at all, battery has never died once or nothing.

However I'm upgrading to:

2x 12" JL 300W Subs

1x Monoblock Amp

1x CD Changer

6x Neon Lights in boot

Will this just need a power cap do you reckon or is a new battery required? If I get a new battery, a good one like optima- does that mean no power cap is needed?

And also should I runn all the boot lighting off boot light. Or if I get a power cap run them off that supply?

Cheers for help

I've always thought that you should follow the problem from its source.

If the new sound system causes dimming of lights, the first things you do are new alternator and new battery because if you just put a power cap in its not really solving the actual real problem of their being a lack of power to the rest of the car.

Corsasport etc... always say sort the alternator, then the battery then the powercap if needed.

Have yo already got one amp? As I thought a monoblock only has one channel ie only powers one sub??

Yeah got a monoblock. But you wire the subs in series (or parrellell) if you get what I mean? So that it goes amp sub1 to sub2 back to amp. A monoblock can work two subs no probs (i hope )

Right so advise is...........

Get nothing unless I need it??? I thought there was a way of calculating power needed by all components in car and seeing if it is too much for standard battery?

At the moment i run a directed 1100D mono amp which is 1100rms at 1ohm and a directed four channel which is 300rms at 2 ohms and i do get dimming but its not that bad and thats quite a bit of power i guess.

ive also noticed a big difference in the amount of dimming I get of the lights since fitting my 1 farad power cap. Im running 2 800w max subs and a 1400w max amp.
