Right i'm doing a new boot install as im is pants at the moment...
Already got Fli Vibe 12" Active Sub 1000 Watt

Basically i want:-

-rear components to replace the standard ones (building the comps into side walls of install)
-Front components, replaceing standard ones with adaptors (plus tweeters)
-And an amp to power the 4 compents/2 tweeters

I need a headunit now aswell i think, but ill come to that after i get these i think...

Budget is £300 for amp and components

rightio...

first off, do you want rear components, or coaxils.
secondly, do you want these comps for rear fill, or just for looks... coz burried away in your boot, you will not hear them while you are driving...
people usually only put coaxils in the back for rear fill. Many people (my self included) do not have rear fill what so ever, but instead spend the extra bit of money on a better amp and/or better components up front.

Are you currently running your Fli sub from a standard HU...?

So if you could clarify, you defo want:

2 sets of comps and a 4 channel amp,
or
1 set of comps 1 set of coaxils and a 4 channel amp
or
1 better set of front comps and one 2 channel amp

I was running the Fli sub from a sony headunit (sold now).

I'm looking for sound performance rather than looks.
So if there isn't any point getting rear ones then i guess i would like to save money there and get some better ones up front.

Saying that, if its cheap enough to get coxails in the boot then i would like to do that because it would look pretty good with the install i have in mind (could i run the rear ones from standard wires? asin dont amp them?)

Lets say, i would like
1 better set of front comps and one 2 channel amp
could £300 get me a good setup?

with £300, you can get a fairly good 2channel + 1 comps set up.

that is a good idea, to run coaxils off of rear speaker HU out puts, as you wont really hear them, but they could look good

i'll have a proper look when i get hom mate, coz im at work at the mo, and its kinda risky :P

they look a bit special. NOTHING wrong with the amp, dont be put off by the price, its just coz its an old model and the new stuff is coming in. and those figures on the pioneer look great. i'd have them over the focals at that price :look:

Ollie SXi

for the budget, i doubt there will be anything that even comes close to that :P

unless CAD have another high end rainbow package deal on…?

i'll keep my eyes peeled though. but no one ever buys what is recomended by people off of here, they get the idea in their head a speaker is a speaker and thats the end of it

Martin

coolio. well build your boot build for sound, and cooling etc like mine. Not just for looks

Ollie SXi
21-08-2006, 16:39
what are the best things to keep in mind?
its gonna be simple... but sexy ;)

Martin
21-08-2006, 16:41
ah i forget you had an active sub...

basically allow good clearance around the amps, tune the box, if u need to put a floor over the amps add a fan etc.

but as your sub n amp is jioned, you only got to really worry about your new amp in the boot.

Ollie SXi
21-08-2006, 16:49
Well depending on the amp i get (how it looks) i will have it on display but built into one of the side walls... like this...

http://www.autoacoustics.com/nav/amppic7a.jpg

Thanks for all the advice mate, im gonna forget about speakers in the rear for the time being, waste of money really!

Martin

check in you instruction book when you get the amp how its prefered way of mounting is.

some amps prefer to be laid flat, for example, that directed one in the picture needs to be laid flat to cool properly, not on its side

however, the JL 300/2 preferes to be on its side.

this can have a big impact on what the build will look like. you can mount the amp as its not deisgned, but it will bnecome less effiecient, could switch off lots when it gets hot, and it could melt.

upto you though

link dont work for me.

what amp are you running the speakers from?

Ollie SXi
22-08-2006, 18:16
dont know, which one do you suggest? the link is of the Crystal Speakers on CAD that you sent me a link for.
If i get them (£180) i will have (£120) for an amp.

I'm gonna buy the amp first, so i can besign and build the boot install...
No point having components if i cant hear them anyway. And i'm prepaired to take my time on this.
So buying alloys and an amp next month, along with some little other stuff...
-Sound deadening, fiberglass, fans
My local ice shop sells Brown Bread, is the good enough for the boot install?
And is it worth spending extra time building a fibergalss install instead of MDF to save on wieght?

Martin
23-08-2006, 16:19
make boxes from mdf, and cover stuff in fibre glass for looks.

brown bread doesnt get too badder reviews, much better than flashin tape. but not as good as dynamat
