is there a right or wrong way to wash and polish your car?

i hear some people wash it with car shampoo 1day and dry it then polish it the next day....why is that?

whats the best way to wash and polish a black car?

Think people leave it a day to make sure its absolutely dry.

I just find washing my car on a cool day is best. And means you can wash and polish on the same day.

I dont have a garage to put my car in so have to polish it outside

Hey sunny! what i tend to do these days is get the cosovans to wash it and dry it for me then get home and polish it with ultra deep shine its water based so it takes off any water marks from the drive from finedon to bozeat by auto glym then wax it with that glass stuff black bottle from meguires and give it a good buff. then do my windows then the black plastic bits.

yeah the cosovans do mine too but they dont polish it cus it takes ages, i just wasnt sure how long you have to let the car dry for before you polish it.

i spray the car with hosepipe.

i use fairy liquid..

rinse it off..

do bits i missed again

re-rinse..

do wheels

rinse..

then leave to dry...

then get a damp cloth.. and rub away all the dry blochy marks

get a dry cloth and buff up..

then go about polishing it.

Doris

It can be quite abrasive compared to proper car cleaners. It's also a degreaser so will take polish and wax off.

i...

rinse all the crap of it it/wet the car
wash with megs nxt wash, with a lambswool wash mitt using 2 bucket method
dry with waffle weave towel
wash again with traffic film remover
clay it with clay and detailer
wash again to remove detailer mess
dry with waffle weave
then apply polishes/waxes with applicators and remove all with mircofibres.

dont wash your car one day and polish it the next, you'll just rub in a days worth of dust all over your paint and scratch it to hell.

Spot on although i dont bother with the washing after clay, just wipe of the detailer at the same time.

I do sometimes leave mine till the next day, but only if its gonna be in the garage and not driven, as i agree with you. If i have driven it, i use megs quick detailer over the whole car, assuming it aint dirty, like just a tiny bit of dust, then polish.

Just stops water messing with your polish!

Dont use a leather! Buy some drying towels! much better and dont damage your paint work.

As for water drying, its a pain i know. Two options, do it when its cool, ie first thing in the morning.

And dont rinse until you have completely finished. Its the water that marks the paint not the soap, so rinse car, then go round with 2 buckets, one with soap, one clean, and clean whole car! Doesnt matter if bits dry, then once you have finished rinse it off. Then dry straight away.

Also when you rinse off rinse off using nozzle on full wack with lots of pressure, then take end off hose, so its just coming out like a tap and run that over the car so the water slides straight off, makes it easier to dry and reduces marks!

Excellent guide! As for the leathers, they are just more prone to causing marks in your paint over the drying towels!

Can buy all the microfibre cloths and drying towels from halfrauds. but if you look online it should be cheaper!
