View Full Version : Donnington - Trackday 12th November
Right I am going to be doing a trackday on Sunday 12th of November. The plan will be to travel the evening before stay in a cheap hotel, have a few drinks maybe an evening out. Somewhere near by that has an ok night life. Maybe go for a curry or something. Im sure someone local can help with ideas for that.
Then day at donington blasting round the track! (you will need a helmet as they dont supply them)
It costs 99 quid for the trackday its self, plus stuff like petrol and hotel if you stay the night. And you may wanna take out insurance for the day, hence planning it so far in advance
I have booked my place already!! SO will definately be going!
May also have a couple of mates bringing their clio 182s but thats not for definate yet.

Post up below if your interested or have any more questions, will have a provisional list and then once you have booked will change it to confirmed.

Anybody worried about it getting called off cos of weather dont worry too much, as if it gets cancelled you get a full refund or the choice of a different day, subject to availability!
if i was you i would really try do a track day event with an open pit lane as you will get very annoyed with the sessions!

I like the sessions as it gives both you and the car a break! I aint no racing driver and it takes a lot of concentration! so 20 minutes is an ideal time
Also my corsa aint designed to spend loads of time on a track, so gives everything a chance to cool down like brakes!
The open pit lanes are good, but donnington dont do them and I love the track there, so for 99 quid im happy with the format!

So when i went up before there were three cars and thredd driver. And another mate came as a passenger. And he saw more track time than the rest of us!

You should do it mate! Dont have to push it to the limit if you dont want to.
Also i would think i would be quicker knowing the track and having driven it before!
Not sure if the girlfriend is coming yet, but if she aint can always come as a passenger!

Well pretty sure she aint coming but will know in the next few days. Passenger is 20 quid? but can go out in anyones car! The fact you have a helmet is a mega bonus!
But you really should put your car out there! Only reason not to, would be cost!

I will be your passenger phil cause my 1.2 is pretty poor and round a circuit i would get laughed at!!
The only thing is you would have to shift my weight round a circuit!!

Running 181BHP and weighs 860kgs which gives a nice 210bhp per ton! :yummy:
handling isnt great but is ok, need a full cage and strut brace, i dont know the track at all!

Sounds bloody quick! All i could hope for is that i could be quicker round the corners with higher exit speeds! But still dont think that would help! If it were just a lowered 2 litre i would have stood a chance, cos although quicker in a straight line i kept up with em round silverstone!

I tried phoning a few minutes ago but she was out on her lunch, will be booking my place today tho. Last time i spoke to her she was saying they had a lot of space so should be fine to book it monday but i will confirm that there is still space today.
Will also find out if passengers can pay on the day!
If your going with mates who are also driving, its good if some of you wanna go in intermediate and others beginner as it means while you are driving they can be passenger and then switch round!
I am also going into novice, cos although have been there before dont think the car stands up to the intermediate level. Need more like a 172 or 182 clio for that!
Also for reference, passengers and second drivers are 20 quid.

I am all booked up, lady is really nice on the end of the phone, if you wanna book the number is 01332 819503. Says there is loads of space available at the moment, tends to fill up sorta 2-3 weeks before the day!

hope to book it next week and when i have i will tell you then will have to get our harness`s in and then new pads, oil change, engine flush, bleed brakes and few other alterations and where gd!

Just hoping i could afford it (the strut brace) and could see it being a bit of a problem cos of where the alarm trigger thing is under the bonnet! Will be looking for a good bargain on ebay!

will be about 2-3 weeks before for the deadline!
and make sure you go in the novice section for 2 reasons:
a) if you have never done a track day then this is the place to be no matter how good a driver you are.
b) we will all be in there in our corsa`s

There is no set deadline, you could even get lucky and be able to book 3 days before, but to be safe i would give it 2-3 weeks. Could always phone up like 4 weeks before and ask how many spaces are available.

STick it on the track mate! Will be a good laugh! As long as you move over and let people past there will be no problems.
The one thing if you are gonna stick it on the track i would recomend is saving the car for later in the day.
Yes go out in the early sessions, but by the last session the track starts to get quiet as people head home! So much better sessions!

I willl be looking to get there early like 7.30 so that you can drive through onto the pitlane, and park/leave my car there. Also gives you plenty of time to get ready, like removing matts, putting in towing eyes, taping up lights if you are gonna do that, checking bolts on wheels are tight. etc...

I will phone and ask for you about parking. Last year we drove into the circuit without having to show any paperwork. Just said we were there for the trackday. Then once inside the paddock area is pretty big so could park there.

Now I have started full time and get my first pay packed at the end of the month, i will start putting some more money into the car. need to get rid of a few debts as well though

n slugger how modded is ur car cos im worried that my standard breaks wont b 2 good, and its lowered not on coilovers which sucks too.
May wanna consider track insurance as i doubt your insurance will cover you. Also try to borrow a helmet as it cuts down on cost. I borrow my mates who no longer has a bike.
My car has coilovers but you would be fine with lowering springs. It now has EBC disks and pads, but I did the last track day at donnington with standard brakes. In fact everything was standard last time except the suspension.
Standard brakes will be fine, but take it easy on the first few sessions and save the brakes for later in the day. You dont need to hammer on the brakes at every corner to have a good time!
Like i said before, the later sessions are much quieter, well they were last time, so much better to save you and the car for then!
But honestly standard brakes are fine! I did it!

Donnington is really good on tyres. Recently resurfaced so its uber smooth!
Last time i went my front tyres were low and couldnt see any difference in them afterwards!
Do put some extra pressure in them tho to save the tyre walls! and have a cheque for nails!

i usually run my tyres slightly high on pressure as i do so many mway miles that it saves a helluva lot on fuel and also allows lsightly higher accel/speed. I think i must have it just right cos the tyre wear is perfectly even :D

also novice section will start prompt at 9! So need to have your car ready before hand! So bare that in mind when deciding when to leave, I suppoose on a good mote if one of you drives up the other can sleep and go first. That way who ever drove can get a bit of a rest in before there session. Cheap day for you as you splitting the costs between u and ur bro!

Now I have started full time and get my first pay packed at the end of the month, i will start putting some more money into the car. need to get rid of a few debts as well though
Its all savings that family have done for me for car, not allowed 2 use any more of that now & got told ive got more savings for house :lol: Full time job hopefully soon and car will be taken big changes & getting finished

Planning on doing another one next year but will probably look into a different track as its nice to go to different places. Maybe try and find an open pitlane one.
Will definately be doing donny tho next year, someone before the put the prices up because of summer

if i cant get a track ticket i will still come along to watch as my mate has an awesome vid cam and can get some decent footage of you lot. The cam he uses is the one that the BBC trains its cameramen on and is worth over a grand :D

This would be very cool!! Do we get a cheaper deal on pictures? What are the quality like, in terms of the printouts? Can you do black and white?
Do you print in raw and then edit, what camera you got, and lastly what printer and paper you use?
Will be really good if you can make it tho!!

You need a big reserve as well as if you crash you have to pay for removal, plus damages to track like barriers!

I am going up the night before and staying in a b&b. So will be aiming to get to the track around 8 ish, as need to sort air pressure in tyres, towing eye, remove any junk etc.
remeber ur helmet mate!
just got mine out and cant find the visor but i dont need one obviously and also tape for the lights, i have some if u need any!

As for tape for lights didnt need any last time but will take it just in case!
Also you have to wear long sleeved tops that cover your arms!
First session starts at 9 straight after the breifing so need to get car ready before the briefing!

Yes it was an amazing day!! Such a rush!
Also you really learn what you and the car can or in some instances cant do, and can see how you get quicker as the day goes on.
I will be doing another next year hopefully, but will need to learn how to change brake pads by then.

just something i have never done before but after reading the tutorial it dont look too hard. Would want to make sure i could do it before getting there tho.

I already have braided hoses. Think the next mod in the way of brakes after going back to ebc stuff will be to upgrade the brake fluid as they were getting bloody hot!! Hot enough to burn the paint off the caliper!
Also before i go out on track again i want front and rear strut braces!!

khumo road slicks are £75 each.

dunno how much the toyo's are but loads of people had them on Sunday and they were all recomending them. Only problem is they only come in 50 profile in 16s
the toyo R888 are about £60 a tyre in 15" form!
