wiring help needed [Archive]

i have one of those 3 in 1 12v adaptor things from halfruads and want to wire it to the ciggy lighter to hide the wires and plug in the front. both the wires are clear and i haven't a clue which is positve or negative. is there any way to tell without blowing anything? :?

whatever wire goes to the spring loaded point on the end of it, is the positive, the side bits that grip the socket, are the negative.

how do i connect it to the ciggy socket so the socket will still work normally? i assume the brown wire is positive and the black negative?

nope. black ignition live, red live, brown earth ;)

you buy these and hard wire:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=1073&criteria=scotch%20lock%20connectors&doy=15m9

basically, you put this half way along an ignition cable, and it splits the power into a new wire. so you can run both.

the ciggy lighter only has a brown and black cable running to them, so how do i go about wiring it up? can't i just shove the wires in the ciggy lighter connector some how :shrug:
