wanna get a ps2 slimline adapter off ebay. theres 2 types

one is like 10 quid the other is 60. could i get the one with the cig lighter adapter, cut that off, strip the wires then connect to the battery? would that work, or is there something majorly different between them. there both 12v so id guess they would, just want some1 else opinion
