View Full Version : setting up amp
Ive got this package http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-typer-pack-p-4813.html?cadid=f5dbf5ca741a2d24884850909caf7c9b.
Im not sure what settings i should use on the amp so that it is working the sub as best as it can without it overpowering the sub or itself.
What should i set the LPF to?
What should the gain be set to? (0V, 0.2V,0.3V,0.5V,0.7V,1.0V etc)
Subsonic filter on or off?
If anyone knows what settings should be used could they let me know, thanks

i though this was in my sticky... i could be wrong though...
gains to half way, set freq to bout 60Hz.
ok, ive just changed the settings.
the gain is now on 0.7V from 1.0V - is 0.7V to low as you can choose 0.1V,0.2V,0.3V,0.4V,0.5V,0.7V,1.0V,1.5V,2.5V,4.0V or 8.0V
I have also dropped the frequency on the LPF from 90Hz to 60Hz.
Are both these settings ok or have i set any too low???
thanks
I thoght it was personal preference.
Just tweak it until it sounds ok to you mate

set the gains to match the pre-amp output voltage of the headunit or get as close as possible, so probably about 4v ???
i have my subs crossed at 80Hz LP with a 24dB/oct slope
but check what fequencies the fronts are playing as well or you could be cutting out some frequencies
gain is determined by HU out put, and freq is personal prefernce yes mate  but most people seem to be about the 60hz mark IMO...
i think my HU has a pre amp output of 2.2V, however when i have the gain turned down to about 2.5V it barely kicks and there seems to be no bass on any tunes
yeah martin it doesnt say in you sticky. There is a section on setting up an amp but it doesnt give figures, kinda just says that gains are not volume.

hmm do you have any EQ control on the headunit??
and turn off any silly things like media Xpander which is alpines gimic (sp??) name for it
yer i have an equalizer on my Hu but it only seems to affect the speakers not the sub. The amp has an equalizer on it where u can +db, i suppose it is like a bass boost, but ive herad bass boost funsctions shouldnt be used. If its supposed to be set to match the HU it means that my sub will hardly be kicking at all, itll sound like i dont have one.
I dont get how im supposed to sort this out.
Any ideas thanks
well if comps are running from hu then thats all your hu will affect...
to fiddle with sub, you need to do so on your actuall amp unless you have a sub out on your HU and not just a pre out...?
im not running any comps. Was just wondering about gain because if i match output from HU to amp gain there is no bass. I have set the gain on 0.7V and the temp reading is 125F (53C), you think this is a bit high or does it sound fine. I think my HU has pre outs only. Im just thinking from reviews of my sub how is it that people say they can barely turn there volume on there HU up because the bass is so loud, where i can turn my HU right up to bout 3/4 volume n the bass is really good but not overwhelming. Would using the +db function on the amp be a good idea to increase bass, or is using functions like these a bad idea (as i heard it can damage the sub and amp)?
