hi guys

no doubt this gets asked every other day, so sorry!
the lights are dimming when the bass kicks in, im running two amps off the battery so i have narrowed it down to that. the earths are fine, and im running them on some heavy duty power cable.

what can i do to stop it cos its driving me up the f**king wall now!

cheers people

get another battery so you have two battery's, or a power cap, or a more heavy duty battery

i get the same problem and i only have one amp, lol. when i turn the volume up it gets worse, but when im driving and in high revs the alternator powers it to 14.1 volts and it goes

It's definitely the amps. As they draw current, the battery can't supply enough to power everything and so the lights dip.

Changing the battery to a heavy duty battery is only half the battle though, as the alternator needs upgrading to completely combat this problem. That's a lot of money and labour costs because it's not as easy as changing a light bulb for example. I wouldn't bother, it annoys me when mine does this too, but i just make sure i don't have my bass too high when it's dark outside and i'm using my lights.

or a power cap

Or not. There's a sticky in this section that explains what the intention of power caps is. They will not help your problem I'm afraid.

Split charging a second battery however will solve the problem, or maybe it is just a case of upgrading the big three to thicker cable (batt neg to earth, alternator to positive, alternator to earth). Also the alternator doesn't necessarily have to be upgraded aswel. Many stock alternators are sufficiently capable of charging the two batteries without issues.

A split charge will ensure at least one battery will always be charged.
