Just finished work, got into car and thought i want some bass

Wacked in some DnB and cranked up the vol to the max.

Was driving down the road and about 5mins later, the sound just cut off. HU still playing. Pulled over and checked power cable fuse next to the battery and it was blown :o And my amp was off. Odviously.

So my question is why did this happen ?

The four 20amp fuses on the amp are fine, and it was a 80amp fuse on the power cable.

Ive had the amp in for about 3days now with no problems.

It has a secure ground and all the cables are tight. As far as im aware.

However my battery has been a bit flat with it only just starting a few times. I was thinking it was maybe this, as the amp sucked to much power and the battery couldnt handle it and the fuse blew ? :?

I really want to know why this has happened !!!

Any ideas what caused it ? :?

Cheers,

Sub asking too much of amp would be my guess

The amp is 4ch with two channels bridged to give 500rms.

And the sub is 500rms.

If anything the amp is more powerful than the sub !

Amp: Alpine MRV-F545
Sub: Alpine Type R SWR-1222D

My dad (An Electrical Technician by trade) always told me it was because the amp is trying to draw too much current from the battery and so it blows the fuse.

At least i think this is what he says??? You may wanna check that though! I'm sorry i don't know the remedy, but i think that may be the cause!

Wire Gauge Recommended Maximum Fuse Size

00 awg 400 amps
0 awg 325 amps
1 awg 250 amps
2 awg 200 amps
4 awg 125 amps
6 awg 80 amps
8 awg 50 amps
10 awg 30 amps

Above taken from bcae1.com i was under the impression you had 4awg wiring? Also make sure you have a good earth on your amp ie it is touching bare metal sand the bit u connect it to if you have to.

Yup 4awg wiring.

The amp has 4x 20amp fuses on it so i put an 80amp fuse under the bonnet. Thats what it says in the amp manual

Ok then as i said check the earth try replacing the fuse with another 80 amp after youve checked all your connections and see if it was a duff fuse it may have been already cracked before use.

Does your amp have a bass control button on it turned up all the way? As i did this and kept blowing fuses

All sorted now. Turns out it was a 30amp fuse in the in line fuse holder on the power cable.

Now been replaced with the correct 80amp and all is fine :P

I could of sworn it was an 80amp in there though :? Some sneaky git must of switched it when i wasnt looking  :woops:
