Basically, I'm going to get a sub in summer ( Alpine Type-R 12") and I'm looking at sub boxes. I'm pretty handy with saws, jigsaws and routers so I'm considering making it myself. I know all of the dimensions of the Type-R 12" box that Alpine make specifically for the sub so I can copy it exactly and I don't see any problems with making it what so ever.

I was wondering if anyone had done something similar and had encountered any problems / had any good tips.

I am also considering putting in a perspex window if I can design it into the box to a high enough standard.

Any advice???

Ive made a few boxes whats the recommended enclosure volume of the sub? (It'll say on the box it came in)

The sub is the 12" Type-R. The design I'm copying is a slot ported design, but these are the numbers that Alpine put out anyways.

The design i've got is about the volume of the vented sound quality volume stated there, but it has a slot port not a circular port.

Get normal sub box, keep it and build around it, u still got right volume. I start build ICE next week hopefully :)

no mate, those are for cylindrical flow ports. no a square port. bassically, (see what i did there :P) you want to build the box to get the volume they recomend, length x width x height, (go by internal dimensions btw) and then whack in a flow port.

they sell some here:

No it's ok. I'm not building from those specs I posted, I only posted them coz a guy asked me for them (dunno why). I'm copying the Alpine slot box they actually designed and made for the sub. I don't need to mod the design because its designed for it in the first place. I just want to build it myself for a bit of fun, possibly put in a window and slap on my own finish.
Thanks for the confirmation there though (and I saw what you did there :) )

sweeet. make sure the window is of adequate strength. you dont want it flexing as it may start to make a "farting" noise.
