Posted before..... But i really am struggling at the moment...

I have some good quality gear, a custom made box that was made exactly for my sub.. and right now.. it sounds terrible......

Whats most frustrating is that I can setup my friends stupidly cheap setups and they sound fine - however when it comes to mine i am at a loss.

HU - Pioneer 5700
Amp (sub) Audiosystem Fxxxx - Mono amp..
Settings on amp = low pass freq + Gain (yes its set to mono)
Sub is a 750W RMS Dual Voice Coil 12" ported box

This is the most important part, however i've most likely setup my component amp wrong also.....

HPF is on - Freq - no idea what to set at

Gain - i can work this out when i know what freq to use :)

I am after as Much info as possible - my hu has 2w's, 2n's, other settings like that which Frankly I dont understand (from the HU down to both amps...)

clledandlmc ? I think his username is - hes trying to locate his old audiosystem amp to pass on settings.

(Everything is wired profesionally)

I set my sub to about 60-65 Hz, I know it could’ve played a bit higher, but theres an argument that the “lower” you have it the more effiecient it can be, thus playing louder.

When you say its sounds terrible, what do you mean? It farts, it isn’t loud, it isn’t very responsive etc…

You say the box is professionlay done or what ever, what has the box been tuned to> what frequency… playing a sub BELOW that of the box will result in damage to the sub ive heard.

35hz? does that sound right?

It just doesnt sound as it should.

F;ex i can set it up so on one song, it sounds awesome.

next track - it sucks, barely plays half of the tones..

I will call the shop now and confirm what it has been tuned to.

Yer that sounds about rite. Nice and low 8)
You should have comps set up so that they will play the mid bass that your sub isn’t playing. Don’t make your sub play too high, it will damage. Some one on here had this happen to them and there alpine sub.

So if i set my sub to 60hz?

What should my components be set to? they don't seem to produce any mid at the mo :P

I have a seperate amp for them

Anything i need to make sure it set on the hU? it's set (sub) 80Hz, option to set to 40 or 120...

0db increase "normal not reversed"
Subbox is tuned to around 40Hz they said...

Hmm, I’d have liked that a bit lower. Not to worry.
Try comps at HPF and move the filter to about 80Hz then, this will only play notes ABOVE 80Hz then. Your comps will be able to play below that, but then it get to a point where they start being too bassy, and you have a clash between comp woofer and sub woofer. Also, the comp woofers excursion may push it into the door card grille if it goes totally made. I’d flick it to HPF, and have a play, slowly turning the freq on the amp until the tune sounds good to you

ok I have set sub amp tooo...... 60Hz ish, sounds better.. gain is just under half?

Just moved gain to 1/4 now as it sounded better but too "burpy" ? So i've lowered the gain hoping this resolves that??

the speakers now seem to play mid - but sound a bit harsh... prolly settings onm y HU?

Clear your PMs Webzta.

If it sounds loud with the settings I gave you why not try turning the gain down a bit. Does it sound alright other than the volume?

it was setup fine but mate changed them by mistake when we rebuilt..

If i turn gain down, I lose some tones..

Ok i have my components sounding as they should now ( i think )

I have crystal treble and smooth mid-range.

I have almost given up with my sub now.... It's getting so frustrating.. tried so many variations and I have still had no joy...

Anymore ideas martin, or settings to try.... please ;(

Think i may have found something - My stereo output is 4V

Am I right in thinking I have to match this to my Amp ? On my amp the gain settings are:

4.3 -> 0.7 -> 0.4 -> 0.26 -> 0.17

Would that mean I would have to set the "gain" to a sliver above 4.3 ?

Martin

yer tha gain is a potentiometer to match your hu to your amp, its just usually the case to be about 1/2 way, how ever it could be different on your amp

Spot on Martin - I read the manual...........and found!!!!

My HU = 4V

So matched this to the amp 4.3 setting, and it now sounds perfect.. however slightly quiet?

Any further suggestions.

My HU is set to Subwoofer = 80Hz and +6 (highest it goes)

notch gain up a bit? or LPF? It's set to erm 70 I think.

what do you means its quiet? turn the volume up :slap:

na seriously, if the sub isnt loud enough, turn the gain on the comps DOWN ;)
