View Full Version : Headlight Beam problem...
i have just realised that my headlight beam has dropped as if i have adjusted the beam level to the last setting using the 1 2 3 switch next to the headlight switch but when i use the 1 2 3 switch the headlight beam doesnt move and usually you can hear them adjusting level but nothing.
the only thing i can think of is the motor for the headlight level has gone.
Has anyone had this problem and know roughly how much it would cost as my warrenty has just run out on the 28th!!! sods law!!

Hi Dan-sxi,
I think I have a similar problem. When I turned my car engine off last night, with the headlamps still on I could hear a whirring/clicking noise coming from down the front end of my car, when I got out to listen it seemed to be coming from the drivers side headlamp assembly.
Anyway I got back in the car and turned the lights off. The noise stopped. Then turned them back on again and the noise started again. As I was parked up behind someone I moved the level selector switch from 0 down to 3 and as I did so the drivers side headlamp did nothing whereas the passengers one started to move down and then back up again. Don't know if the two are related but I'm gonna take the car down to Vauxhall tomorrow as my warranty runs out on the 7th April. I just hope that this is something they'd fix under warranty!
Cheers
Moved and re-named to something more sensible so that people actually know what the problem is...

Did you find out the problem? EXACTLY the same thing has happened to my grandads car when I put some new bulbs in for him. Only the passenger side makes the constant whirring noise when the lights are switched on though...

It turns out that my local Vauxhall garage wouldn't repair it under warranty as they say it is accident damage. There is a ball and socket joint on the back of the headlamp unit which attaches to the drive motor by some sort of rod. In my case the rod/ball & socket joint has been snapped so the motor has just been running constantly as it has had no feedback resistance to stop and therefore now pretty much burnt out. The only way that it can be fully fixed is a new motor £35, a full headlamp unit (which contains the ball & socket joint) £180 then labour and VAT equalling £300+.
My issue is that my car was involved in a non-fault accident which damaged the offside wing, drivers door and quarter panel. When it was taken to VAUXHALL to repair the damage I know that they removed the headlamp and refitted it once the work was done. Unfortunately this was nearly 14 months ago. I don't use the motors at all really as there is only usually two of us in the car max, but I know when I bought the car both of them worked fine... I just don't know where I can go from here.:?:?:dontknow:
