Ok Newbie here really...

Just bought a set of Xenon bulbs off ebay, but keep reading about these HID conversion kits, actually havent got a clue what they are... but begiining to think u need one installed to use the bulbs ?

Right ?

Or can you still use them, and simply plug and play the new bulbs into exsisting headlights ?

Bulbs and HID kits are different things.

The Xenon bulbs just give the effect of an HID kit, whereas actual HID kits cost much more money :)

Brilliant, whats the advantage of having an HID kit then? And are they less effective without it or what ? Need somebody to explain?

HID kits give better visibility and look nicer than traditional bulbs :)

basically xenon bulbs are just a cheaper way of trying to acheive a h.i.d look, obviously h.i.d is a lot lot better but alot more money aswell

Right okay, well how drastic is the difference between the two? Any one got a pic of just bulbs, and full HID conversion???

Have a search, there are plenty of threads about it.

Have a search for "Ultra Power Bulbs" to see the effect of Xenon Bulbs

Then search for "HID kit" to see an HID kit in action ;)

cheap Xenon bulbs are just a makreting ploy, they are just normal bulbs that give off a ****e white light to make others think you have got HID
HID kit is a full kit consisting of ballasts and bulbs, these are much more brighter than normal Halogens..next time you see a top spec merc/bmw etc those are HID's

Fair enough, and don't get me wrong, im a newbie, but have performed quite a few electrical mods already, so id be more than capable of installing a HID kit im sure, just dont see the point in splashing out buying one if the difference isnt remarkably greater.

Of course yes. im sure HID is gona look better, not disputing that, but are the bulbs still any good alone ?

Xenon-look bulbs are s***. They are painted blue to be "whiter" then the standard ones. That blue paint filters the light from the filament so it gives less output.
Some of those bulbs are 100W to balance the loss of light and that way you can melt your connectors due to higher wattage. Also those cheap xenon-look bulbs tend to melt themself in projector headlight due to less space between bulb and the projector housing, everything is caused by them painted blue.

HID offers many advantages. they only draw 35w constant drain (as opposed to 55 for halogen), they come in a variety of colour temperatures to suit your needs, offer 300% brighter illumination than halogen and bulb life jumps from 400hours average for a halogen to 2000+ hours average for a xenon HID.

you will find the visibility, colour and performance of HID totally outclasses anything halogen or xenon filled bulbs can offer.

most people get 8000k mate

i'd get 6000k tho cos there less bluey = less times pulled by police
