The police can't be that bothered with front windows at the moment as I've never been stopped for them.

Suppose it depends what mood they're in at the time!

having tint on the front 2 windows is NOT illegal.

But it is illegal if the tint stops a set ammount/percentage of light comming thru.

Used to be that 35 % tints were Legal but due to cars comming with a slight tint from factory (even tho its not noticable) then the windows would be darker than the sed 35% of the tint film.

driver and passenger front windows have to let thru 70% of light to be legal.

if ur not sure then contact ur local vehicle testing stationa s they will have the written law.

I got mine done there last tuesday, I got them medium all round which looks good. When I was there I asked him what the legal limit is and he said that medium is border line, its legal but its as far as ya can go. The back of course you can go as dark as you like

medium is only legal if it meets the above light transmission requirements.

I believe its illegal to have any tint on the windscreen (although i recently read on teletext that you can have up to 25% on the windscreen???)

Your front sides no more than 35% (mine are 25%)
You can have any % on all other windows! (I think i had 50 all round)

It cost me £120 for all 5 windows, only took the guy about an hour to do

Its confusing because all of the windows in cars are tinted already by about 15% I think!

The legislation has changed this year to say that anything from the B pillar onwards can not be tinted more than what came with the car as new. So basically no tints on front windows. No police know about it anyway because there are loads of cops in my family and none of them knew about it!

Dont quote me on it but I'm sure I have read this on one of the topics here somewhere!

Ive had mine for months now and not had any bother....

They wont pull you just for having tinted windows - you will get pulled if you are driving stupid etc....
They will then fine you for them as they have got you for something else...

Hope that makes sence

if you don't attract police attention then i don't see why they would pull you over. i always drive past police and they give me a smile.

maybe they're in love with me?

Had a word with some 1 who does tints today and he said that you cant do any front windows due to the mobile phone law and its a MOT fail if you do have them. But he said that if you have dark tints on the back it will make the front look dark to.
Is £40 a window alright?

 The tints have nothing to do with mobile phones, and Mine passed it's MOT in Feb no problems with a 25% Tint in front of the B-Pillar.

Standard price is £180 all round to Joe Public, and about £140-150 trade. There are still several places that will tint in front of the B-Pillar, but tell you it's for Show purposes only, and offload any responsibilities onto you to clear themselves.

My mate has his own Tinting business and will tint in front, but only if you sign his bit of paper releasing him from the long arm of the law if you are charged.

The likelyhood of coppers even knowing about this law is almost non-existent, and to get one that knows it and stop you even less. I still aint heard of anyone being pulled specifically for the front tints, but have heard tales of being pulled for something different, and upon inspection of the vehicle, the tints have been requested to be removed. But they're just tales

You are allowed to tint to a max of 20-25% I thuink it is, but don't forget that nearly all new cars these days already have tinted glass, so you are just adding to that.

I have mine done and never had a problem.

Go for it Scott

The law has only just come in.he siad it not linked to the mobile phone law but it came out just after and they se how much light comes through the window.

I got this private guy to do mine...£120 for 5 windows, pretty damn good actually, only took him an hour to do the lot!

Not sure about the current law, but not long ago it was anything in the back and rear sides, up to 35% front sides
I even heard that you could have your windscreen done, no more than 25%..but that seems very unlikely!

I also heard that some coppers are carrying those light guns to measure the % of your tints.

went to cruise last year and police were walkin round with the light testers checkin peoples windows. sum got producers and they had to have them removed and checked by an mot approved garage.

No , the front 2 windows (passenger and driver) have to let thru 70% of light.

so if u have a 35% tint then it is basically illegal.. as it will only let thru 65% of light? also, even tho u are saying "ive got 35% tints , so it stops 35% of light"...basically it doesnt.

Ur windows are already slightly tinted from the factory (even tho u may not notice any tint) but this will make a difference to wat light trasmission level u have.

for example.

stick on a 35% tint (blocking 35% of light on ur corsa c)... go get ur light levels checkd and u will find that it could be stopping upto an extra 10% of light due to the cars having slightly titnted glass from the factory.

all in all, this is a *******

Cheers for that mate!

It would be so much easier if they actually published what the legislation is at the moment! It would stop people like us getting confused!!
