im going to run a 4awg power cable from battery to boot (dizzy block). Just wondering, is it compulsary to upgrade the negative earth to chassis cable to 4awg as well?

yes.

your amp only pulls what it can get rid of.

imagine it like pipes carrying water. It will only suck in as much water as it can get rid off. So you need to match (or go bigger) with the earth.

although if your only running a 500wrms amp, i maybe wouldnt bother with the hasle

I think he means from the battery to the chassis Martin. (Part of Big 3)

yer i know mate.

to complete the circuit - you need battery negative. going to the chassis is the shortest route because it is connected to negative. If you earth with 0awg, and your battery to chassis is only 8awg, then you may aswel only earth your amp with 8awg.

if that makes sense :?

can i get away with just upgrade the battery neg to chassis cable, and leaving the other 2 for later.
system is about 1100 peak, bout 600-700rms, so i'll have to change the battery neg to chassis.
cheers

the battery is what everything needs to connect to. the chassis is just a way of using less cable. you still need to use thick gauge at the other end.

maybe thats clearer lol?

what amp is it mate?

you can "get away" with it yes. Although then you'll have your amp only "pulling" the same "thickness" as the alternator.

i think this is getting a bit technical though. would be helpfull if i knew your amp - cause there's no point telling you all this if its a mutant one, for example :)

i have a JBL gto 75.4 to power the infinity components (used to power a infinity sub as well but took that out)

and ive just bought a WCC-8001 (west coast customs, but it has directed audio on the box) amp to power two 12" subs.

well that was a waste of time lol

you'll be fine without up grading earth. however, you can if you want. might aswel if you have cable left over

lol, how comes that was a waste of time, is it only worth upgrading if the system is over a certain wattage?

Martin

well some people upgrade it even with no system.

depends if you can be bothered.

IMO a certain wattage to upgrade. and a certain wattage to get a second battery

sorry one last question.
will a 8 guage power cable from battery to dizzy block be ok...considering, there will be two 8 guage cables coming out from the dizzy block.

or just run a 4 gauge from battery to dizzy block?

run 4awg.

the 4awg into 2x8awg is only like £8 i think
