View Full Version : fitting a double din stereo
hiya, i am getting something along this line:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DOUBLE-DIN-6-5-LCD-TOUCH-SCREEN-TV-DVD-MORE_W0QQitemZ260107634413QQihZ016QQcategoryZ67772 QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
what do i need to fit this? at the moment i just have a pioneer cd player (single din with the cradle thing)
just wondeing if i needed some sort of cradle thing to fit this as the top is wider then the bottom and i'm guessing there would be a gap at the top if i just threw it in??
also, would i need a wiring loom converter?
Thanks

you can make it double din. i had my motorised alpine screen in the top deck and a dvd player in the bottom. Plus tried my mates double din headunit in it and it fitted fine. theres a bit of plastic at the back you will have to cut away.

fitted fine? as in it didnt look weird because its wider at the top?

try and send it back and youll have to pay a hefty price to send it back, coupled with the fact that the companies that make these change their names all the time, and that they have less quality control than more prestigious brand
i was talking in general, i didnt look that closely to the picture to be honest, i'm sorry on this occasion i have been proven wrong. But in general it is usually safer to go with known brands as quality does differ, which is reflected in the price
well anyway lol, if i just shove it it, rekon it'll look ok or i'll be left with black gaps to the sides?

buying new headunit now so just wanted final thoughts!

my cars away just now getting a new install in it, and one o the things thats gettin done is the alpine double din put in, but its getting fibreglassed, using the single din adaptor as a template. he said it was an easy enough job.

all that lead convertor does it swap the red and yellow wires over, it works without it but everytime you turn it off, the settings are wiped. on all vauxhalls tho, they have bullet connections on the red and yellow wires apparently, so you can just swap yourself.
only paid £8.99 for the load tho.. retunred now in any case as the dvd player is faulty!
can i just ask was the dvd player that unbranded one form hong kong?

:woops:
was actually this one in the end..

:woops:
lol. buying from asian countries to save money is ok if youre buying a specific brand like pioneer or whatever, but never get unbranded stuff

im really unsure about this converter cable business - Halfords wanted to sell me a 30 quid cable, but GK's told me the corsa has standard ISO connections, and therefore dont need an adaptor cable. :S
try it without first, if it works dont buy the adapter??

nice one, thanks! it seems you only need to get that if you dont want to be cutting any wires. as its only three fiddy, i might just get one anyway and hopefully save some hassle! also realised im gonna need a double din adaptor, as the corsa's head unit is tapered :-/

id rather it fit properly than have it half hangin out:\
for £40 id rather it look nice and not bodged in a decent car
the least you can spend on a decent double din headunit is about 200 pound so 40 doesnt seem that much in comparison

exactly, i just bought a double din adaptor in the end, instead of all the hassle making one up :look:

hmmm, just noticed for the double DIN adaptors - it says they are for 2006 corsa's on. has anyone actually tried these on a C?
if u look more closely on the site you would find double din adaptors for before 2006 as well.

indeed, it does. dont worry bout it mate.
loving CAD's delivery service though, ordered it yesterday and it was delivered today! shame procar_sound on ebay's delivery service isnt good. ordered a double DIN dvd HU from him over a week ago, and on the auction page it says 3 - 5 days delivery. mailed him yesterday and today, no replies as yet :-/
