its come down to these 2 i think, i like the 9853 as i think it looks rather sexual, but which one is going to be better for functionality?

(is that the display that the 9857 always has? as i dont reli like it)

Definatly the 9857 mate, the screen on the 9853 is truely poop.
The biolite display on the 9857 is similar to mine and makes the unit so easy to use. Go for that one mate! :thumbs:
My mate has the 9857 running his system and it is spot on. Will be everything you will need.
But if you want more features then get the 9853, as it hsa time correction and parametric equaliser, and the face tilts too. But i doubt you will need it. If you wanted the extra features then try to stretch to the 9855r, the same as mine. You wont regret it

my head and heart say yes, but my pocket and mum say nooooooooooo, gonna cost even more with the ipod.

The screen isn't awful, just the 9857 and 9855 screens are really good. I'm happy with my 9853. And touch glide is really useful.

i've had like 8 units in my corsa. the one i prefer the most has to be the alpine 9855r which i brought about 1 month ago!

There is no CD player in it - it only take music from an iPod. The screen is much better than the 9855, but I can't find much technical info like pre-out voltage etc.
its either get the 9857 with the adapter, or pay 30 quid more to get the 9855 with no adapter and rely on cds until a cheap one comes around.

Alright, the screen isnt awful, but just really annoying compared to the brilliant screen on the 9855. On the 9853 it has loads of abbreviations etc, that just makes it more difficult to use and no way near as sexy !
what about the ida-x001 tho???
im reli liking this for the fact it has a colour screen and can control it like the ipod, not too bothered as cds will go on ipod anyway.
its full speed so no need for the cable (i think)

The iDA-X001 is like a unicorn. There aint enuf of the lil feckers to go around. I'm still waiting for the local store to have them in stock. I ordered the 9885R as a waiting ground. Once i get the ida, bye bye mr 85 :)
