View Full Version : My Setup
I had £500 notes to spend, and this is what i built.
I know it is nothing compared to some of the stuff you lads have, but it does the job for me.

I am using a Pioneer headset, cant remember what it is, uses 4 x 50 output, which is ok i suppose. Looking to buy a new one, but aint got the cash yet, looking for one around £150 - £200 i suppose. (if ya got any ideas i would appreciate them)

It won't be producing anywhere near 50w per channel mate, so take no notice of that figure. Probably somewhere near the 20w rms mark.
That looks like a nice quality build, but not the right kit for me I'm afraid, I could get alot better kit for 500 notes. I take it a large percentage of the budget was spent on the box building and design materials?
To me the amp and speakers are worth about £200 which is why I'm asking mate
nice.
whats the box tuned to?
tell me the 6x9s dont share the same box as the sub
also, PLEASE move your amp, its nearly upsdie down... It wont last long like that mate... needs to be mounted properly to allow adequate cooling...

Whats wrong with the way it's mounted chap? It's not in a tight space so there seems to be sufficient air around the amp for heat dissipation and good air circulation...
the amp is designed using the theory "hot air rises". So heat sink and components will be built assuming the how air will go UP and OUT of the amp. If its upside down, hot ait will go INTO the heat sink and it wont stay cool for long, and then there's the chance components inside it will fuzz out. It was pointed out that some components are mounted on pcb's away from heat sink, but some components are on it otherwise it wouldnt be there lol. play it hard for a while, then touch it... ouch ;)
no they are not in the same box, i divided it into 3 sections, then padded it out to stop it sounding crap.
Yeah i spent quite a bit on the mdf, its 18mm, so it is really firm and heavy, the wiring was like £40 - 50 i think, the amp was about £100 at the time, 6x9 were about £50, not sure about sub though. Its about 10 months old.
I made the box so i can take it out easy, and also made it sturdy enough so that if i was rear ended, it would not break, thanks to that, when i was rear ended, the box was not damaged at all. Where i used to live, lots of cars got busted into, so i did not want to put 6x9 in the parcel shelf, cos thats the backwindow done, and then their gone.
There is sufficient room around the sub to allow air flow :) i made sure of that. I know it aint the best, but for me, it does the job.
oh, if you get rid of the 6x9 ports, and make them sealed to about 0.7 cubic feet, they will sound sooo much better ;)
