Alpine headunit!

I have jus changed my whole audio system to Alpine gear and am really happy with it but have one problem.
I previously had a sony headunit and had the steering controls, now according to stereo shop and halfords i cant do this with the alpine headunit....
Im not to sure if i believe them, then halfords said well it can be done but looking at £70 ish???
I have got an 04 plate corsa, if anyone can help be great!

you can get an adaptor mine cost me about 50 that was on a 03 plate corsa

it was a few years ago mind so price could be a bit less

what head unit is and does it support audio controls ?? if you car is pre canbus(before 08/04) you can use the autoleads pc99-x06 with a pc99-alp

If your car has can bus i havent seen anything about for the alpine yet. it maybe worth dropping alpine technical an e-mail support@alpine-electronics.co.uk


alpine also do there own leads for the display and audio controls but the not cheap at around £60-100 for pre canbus cars

i thought it was only different at with really new corsa's 56 plate onwards.

I'm fairly sure u can just buy another steering adapter thingy for your alpine HU and be done with it. £30.

My car was registered in March so that sounds ok, the headunit is CDA-9853R, how do i find out if its compatible with controls?

the 9853 has both display and audio controls i would double check the car first befor ordering anything

iirc the alpine leads a kce-970 and kwe-972 but there hard to get hold of (pre canbus only)

if you just want controls the autoleads cable will do that around £30-35 again pre canbus only

i thought it would have the controls, so the sony unit i had to have for the controls is diff, i cant remember if i will need both units again or if just need one (ie for the stereo, but not the car bit???)

hi, go to a motorworld if you have one near you, theyw ere well helpfull with me.

you get an adapter for around £30 and then u have to buy the bit that goes from the adapter to the HU which is brand specific like sony, alpine, jvc etc and thats about a fiver. definatly not £70 as they were saying

Well i have still got the other bit for the vauxhall bit from the sony one, so just need the alpine bit im guessing, nowhere here has one in stock!

depends on the type of headunit

some are a fw pounds some are upto £70

look on cad or their forum

right there are 3-4 plug types for the corsa c

1.26 pin iso (early cars)
2.36 pin mini iso
3.40 non iso gm (sqare block)

all depends on what age the car is and what stereo it had from new as of 08/2004 (bulid date) thay started to change over to the 40 pin gm canbus (theres also 40 pin non canbus)


you can get the adapters to-from to convert all the type fitted to the corsa

the problem is with canbus cars you need an correct interface so it talks to the car properly pre canbus cars dont need this so just use a simple lead (up to 08/04 thay used resistor based audio controls each control has a diffirent resistance for each button)

the canbus uses a twisted pair cable to talk to and from the ecu and bcm to various parts of the car sensors ect so with the audio controls the interface need a dongle as it were to id itself to the canbus system so it knows where its geting its comands from eg.the audio controls


the confusion comes from the makers of these leads some say upto 2003 other say 2005
