Hi, i've been and bought some 12mm MDF from Focus and i've stencilled my shelf onto it, taken my time and got it just right.....i hope. Just after som eideas on what to do with it once it's cut, i've thought about possibly mounting my powercap onto it in the middle but it seems alot of arsing about.
It's got to have 2 6*9's at least but i'm wondering whether to rather than cover it in carpet to spray it gloss black?
Also what is the best way to mount the speakers?? Cut a hole and drop them in or make mounts and screw them in form underside with no hole above??
well, with no hole above, sound wont com out... so id cut a hole in it...
i wouldnt have a power cap on display. no. actually i wouldnt have a power cap.
i always think fabric looks better tbh.

dont mean to burst your bubble mate but I originally build my shelf out of 12mm MDF and it rattled like a bitch, I just rebuild mine at the weekend out of 18mm thich MDF n its fine now

Cool, all views are needed but how can the thickness of the wood make a difference???
My plan is to cut a little big and plane off extra's until it's a very snug fit (unlike my standard piece of cr*p that moves when i go round corners).
The speaker mounting is getting to me, does it an any way improve sound if they are mounted from underneath??

when you are driving you will see
when you go over slight bumps etc the shelf flexes and bounces off the rails it is sitting on
you could screw a batton on the underside of the shelf to stop it flexing

This is another point that i am trying to get my head around, the classic 6by9 fit is in the middle at the next to each other with oblongs going across the car.
I'm wondering if anyone has anyone has mounted theres along the length of the shelf so that they are to the very left and right sides with speakers having the 9" going away from you rather than across.
This should stop as much bounce but having your advice i think i might look into strengthening anyway.

yer that could help, I havent seen this before might look good with your power cap aswell
once you have made it and driven around with it in you might find its not to bad but i know mine used to annoy the hell out of me especially when you have the music turned down low lol
You just have to see for yourself really :doublethumbs:
Good luck with it all
