sub boxes

rite im going out in the next week to get my twin subs in my car, but while i have been looking around i notice that some subs come enclosed in a box and sealed in, and some dont, by this i dnt mean some come without any box, i know all subs have a box to go in, but ive seen one where the subs are covered by erspex and u cant actually touch the subs, and another where both subs are just facing out, il put pics up of wat i mean in a sec but if anyone understands wat im getting at, wat is the diffrence between subs that are sealed behind perspex and ones that aint? eg in terms of sound quality and bass levels

personally i think the ones behind the perspex look much nicer, but apart from asthetic value, wats the diffrence?>

The one that is sealed behind perspex looks similar to a bandpass enclosure. Bandpass enclosures are usually used by SPL competitors as the give a massive peak at one frequency but drop off quickly for all other frequencies. They are usually pretty bad for music unless they have been designed really well.
The other types of box are: ported like the second picture (which still give a distinct peak frequency but a flatter frequency response than the bandpass)
and sealed which is like the second picture but with the ports between the subs filled in so it is a fully sealed box (these give the flatest frequency response, but a far less distinct frequency peak)

right, well i just got the sealed box one, simply coz it looks better i think, lol, i dnt care too much about amzing quality as its not going into any shows or anything i just wanted a little kick with my music, and i must say im rather happy with it :)
