Hi everyone,

I have just fitted my panasonic head unit with front aux for my ipod, 800w 4 channel SPLX amp and vibe 475w 6x9's. The only problem is that the 6x9's sound frickin awesome, but the rear standard speakers rattle in their casing like mad. I want to disconnect them and think i have found what I think are the wires connecting the speakers (the ones that go directly into them) but i can't get it out. Could i just snip the cable or would this mess with other things such as front speakers or other electrics? I would rather just disconnect them because when i come to sell the car i can re-connect them and put all the standard stuff back in. So could anyone tell me how to disconnect them please.

Also, what is the maximum wattage 6x9's i could put in with my 800w 4 channel amp? or is 475w already too much?

Thanks in advance!!!

Just cut the wires at the loom. As removing the rear speakers requires a degree in corsa interior removery.

If you reach into the holes in the boot under where the speakers are you can just pull the connectors off.

The are on quite well but if you pull hard enough they will come off.

No need to cut any wires then

You have 2 wires (per speaker)

At one end they go into the speaker

At the other end they go into a loom ( or connection block ) that plugs into the back of the head unit. Cut them here. It's fairly easy to work out which is which.

A) The headunit should have a diagram showing which wire goes to which speaker.
B) Putting the two ends of each pair of wires (would be clear when you are looking at them) to a battery, you would hear a popping sound from the speaker in question.

I have fat hands and couldn't reach in :|

You could always use a pair of nose pliers

Cant i cut them at the connection to the speaker instead? So if i pull the connector to the speaker hard enough it will just come out yes? It saves me having to take the head unit out.

Cheers for your help

Yes you can cut the connection at the speakers.

You can also pull them off. Either way is good. I'd cut them at the HU though as it's easier to reconnect them.

I just wondered because i yanked em pretty hard but they wouldnt come off. Will disconnecting them interferre with anything else like front speakers in any way?

And anyone know the most powerful 6x9's my amp could run?

Wouldn't get any problems unless the two wires you took off touched. Which may happen of you just cut or took them off from the back. That's another reason why i took them off at the front so i couldn't put electrical tape around them.

800W, 4 channel so 200W a channel PEAK so around 100W RMS or 200W RMS if you bridged two. Both able to run with high pass filter?

Best ask one of the ICE experts, Coops, Some other bloke...can't remember his name he posts in most of the ICE threads.....and of course....bottom of the pile, we have martin.

The way i would do it is cut the wire at the headunit and then you can just reconnect them at a later stage if you need to. Everyone has a different way of doing things lol

The speakers i have at the minute are 160w RMS each, so id need to bridge the channels to upgrade them yes?

How do i bridge them? I know im a pain in the ass but i aint got a clue about any of this stuff lol.

Your help is much appreciated.

bridge them by putting the positive from one channel to the negative of another. But only if your amp has this function built in. I'm pretty sure it will though.

Would this mean my 160w RMS speakers are only running at 100w RMS?

Dont disconnect them. Just fade the sound to the front.

Ok, will try that. What about the 6x9's, am i running them at their full potential?
