Take the yellow diffuser out and pop a bit of white plastic in place of it, in the same shape :)

That'll cure it.

any pics? is it easy enough to do?

Az

I'll sort out a pic soon. It's literally just like I said. Split the MFD open, take the yellow diffuser out, put a plastic replacement in like a section of an icecream container (Cheers, Oddjob) and you're done.

AN ICE CREAM CONTAINER!!!!! Where the hell did you get that one from :D that won't work at all, ice cream containers are too thin, too white and too opaque.

I can honestly say I've never recommended an ice cream container, I'm still very ill at the moment Ciaron but if you can wait until the end of the week I can supply a proper piece of stuff to fix your problem, costs £1.50 and unlike an ice cream container it won't make the screen fall in or cut too much of your blue light down.

Or I can supply a full converted 3 bulb MFD with 10 LEDs installed, should be about £30 but then you can sell on your old one. Oh and you can read this one in bright sunlight

oddjob, you can get clear ice cream containers

Oddjob
29-07-2007, 23:14
Yeah you can Sam, still too thin though. :)

We've been down this, it don't work route before though, all I can advise is what I KNOW works and what I fairly sure, if not positive won't.

wouldnt a drop of white paint or tipex do the same job

Can you get one for prefacelift?

Oddjob
29-07-2007, 23:23
Sorry David, you've lost me there. Tippex etc is usually put on to reduce hotspotting on LEDs, in this case the LEDs aren't bright enough so putting tippex or something like would just make matters worse.

It appears the problem is that VX in their wisdom went the same way as they did with the Astra G and started putting yellow diffusers in the later MFDs, it's only shown in the facelift Corsa AFAIK, the 3 bulb type MFD, if you fit blue or any colour except red LEDs in that type MFD the diffuser just defeats the light source.

lol, funny that, mines flat, perfect light clarity and the screen doesn't fall out. As is Missing_Pilot's, he's chuffed to bits with his.

Why waste £1.50 when you can mod it yourself and enjoy the icecream :yummy:

 where did you get your bulbs? would being a pre-facelift or facelift make a difference maybe?

suppose i could try both, its not like £1.50 is alot o' money? wouldnt go for the £30 ones though! too steep!

Nope i havent, ive put the original bulbs back in the speedo and the icon comes up, just not when the blue bulbs are in

LOL price reflects that I have to buy a 3 bulb MFD beforehand, they ain't that cheap and they ain't that easy to find yet.

how much would you do the MFD if i sent you the one i have now?

Oddjob
29-07-2007, 23:51
No sorry mate, I've only today got out of bed. Been stuck there for 9 days now and I'm as weak as a kitten, have to finish my backlog of outstanding orders before I can start working on unfinished projects.

I was working on it right before I got sick, I've got the template made, all it needs is wiring and the LEDs installing, getting the heater knobs to illuminate wasn't easy at all. You can't install the in the knobs themselves as the righthand one goes in a full circle so eventually it would rip out the wires, you could put the others in the other 2 though but then it wouldn't look balanced.

any idea on prices for a decent enough setup? what bout MFD, btw you have PM

Oddjob

how much would you do the MFD if i sent you the one i have now?

Easier if I converted one I have, sent it to you, you fit and return your old one. No downtime and you only have to dismantle the centre console once.

This is my daughters MFD, same type as yours, 3 bulb type, hers had the usual 10 LEDs installed, I'm not sure I got that one perfect but that's the beauty of modding, you learn by each unit. As you can see it has no hotspotting, it's 17.50 in May and you can still read it clearly.
If you want that look then I'm happy to help out, you'll have to wait a week though as i do need to clear my backlog. £14 for that inc P&P.

Yes mate I can do both types, I can even do trip computers for Astra Gs and they are weird.

Here's a 2 bulb type, out of an Astra G but they are almost identical except the Corsa has a slight tilt on the screen, look how bright it is outside, that was in the heat wave a few weeks back and it is still very readable even without it's shade fitted.

It's 0.3mm thick Az, might as well be ice cream pot. The correct thickness is 3.0mm.

Can't find one of an orange one, but I've got one of both types of white ones which were fitted to earlier MFDs.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v451/Oddjob323/DSCF0247.jpg

One on the left is the Borg type, one on the right is the Siemens, they both fit differently and you can clearly see that both have intregral springs on the edges, these keep the glass screen pressed against the clip so it can't pop loose.

how much would one of these cost?

£13 inc P&P to convert yours or £22 to buy one outright as these are quite common. It would be the flatter Mk4 type though but no real difference.

But my ice cream pot doesn't allow my screen to rattle.

sorry to dig this up, but wudnt paper work?

RJSTRAFF
31-01-2008, 13:18
plastic's better as it wouldnt crease or fold etc, but yeah i guess so, lil bit of plastic i used nice n easy, the screen can clip back into the clips for the actuall filter (makes sense when your doing it)

Oddjob

Paper wouldn't work as it won't diffuse the light source enough. You want the hotspots on the bulbs to be virtually eliminated and using paper would result in you being able to see the bulbs. Which kinda defeats the object.

I used a bit of plain white paper & works perfect mate no hot spots no rattle & looks perfect.
