Does the box size make a sub any lower or louder? I think the box ive got is to small.

smaller sealed boxes give tight bass (like fast happy hardcore sort of stuff) whilst larger sealed boxes give looser bass (like rap music etc) and ported boxes increase the box capacity but i don't know what sort of difference that should make although i have a tuned ported box in my boot and it sounds excellent. just need to get the system scoped now!

The box size changes the loading of the cone.

In essence:
a smaller than recommended box will make it harder for the cone to move, making bass tighter and missing the low notes. You will need more power to get the sub as loud as the recommended box would sound.
A larger than recommended box will give you slightly less responsive bass, but the lows will be louder. You will lose the upper end response. You have more of a chance of the sub back-plating.

If you don't know your stuff and you like your equipment, don't deviate from the recommended specs.
