I have Infinity 6512i door speakers:

2-way 6.5" (16.5/17cm) speakers (pair)
Plus One+ poly woofer cone with hi-roll rubber surround
rotating UniPivot silk dome tweeter
power range: 2-60 watts RMS (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/3835.html#) (180 watts max power)
frequency response (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/3835.html#): 53-21,000 Hz
sensitivity: 92 dB
top-mount depth: 2-1/16"

and my head unit can do 4x50W output. at the moment i am using the speakers through the existing wiring. would it be worth getting an amplifier for these speakers? would i notice a difference in sound quality? will i be able to get a louder sound without distortion?

thanks!

yes, most likely peak. 99% of the time wattage figures are peak.

i would assume i would need a 2 channel amplifier? now obviously i would like to spend the least amount possible, but i am happy to pay a premium for superior quality. what sort of amps should i be looking for? any reccomendations? :)

best bet is to speak to caraudiosecurity and tell them what ya got, they always been good for me and not bad prices either....

you want somethin like a 400watt 2 channel max - or if you intend on upgrading at a later date i have a fli 800watt 4 channel in the garage which would do the fronts and backs too....

well i plan on getting either an 8 or 10 inch sub at some point (i like the look of the infinty reference 10inch subs, plus it would match my door speakers :P), and i will probably leave it at that. also, i heard that its not a good idea to have a sub and say 6x9's on the parcel shelf?
iirc my head unit has 2 pre-outs.

Head units typically put out 18Wrms

your correct!

a sub should never share the same air space as a set of full/mid range speakers!

best option is to upgrade the standards (as you have done up front) and just have sub in the boot, no 6x9s at all! a good set of components is better that a set of 6x9s anyday!

i had a similair set up in my old car, had the front and rears amped with the fli ammp i got and sub on its own amp..... sounded sweet!

swish! another question - would the be any advantage to running two separate amps (apart from mad tyte cool points  ) - one for the front speakers, and one for the sub?

your gonna pay more out for 2 amps plus your gonna have to run 2 power cables!!!

if your gonna be puttin a sub in aswell, i would get a 4 channel now and then when you do upgrade you got less messin about to do and would mean ya could get a meatier sub!

Im going for 2 amps.

I got one sony amp at 2x55wrms and a JBL amp at 1 x 250wrms with a set of rockford fosgate comps and a jbl GT4

Im running one power wire down the side and hooking up a distrobution box on top of the install.

The power is an 8 awg as this is plenty for the power im running and allows me to get another jbl amp eventually 8awg should support up to 1200w of power continuously. but since the amps would only add up to 1000 peak it will be fine.

plus the big gold box with wire going in and two coming out looks cool.

Amps are a good idea not only for power but stops the HU getting too hot.

I wouldn't touch fli audio.

and why is that?

and why is that?

there a bit poop.

JBL GT4 £18.99 a sub box for £20 and an amp for £35 is what i have.

so £75 for something that will sound much better.

well, im open to any recommendations for amp's that will suit my needs :) i am a complete noob when it comes to this stuff, as you can probably tell.

so am i to be honest but i pmd 2 people lots and i got here.

But ill give it a go.

basicly my stereo has 3 pre outs.

Front
Rear
Sub

I can control them seperatly from the HU

So i decided to get a sony amp for the front comps which i got for £20 off here and looks great :) very pleased.

Then i thought HMM Bass

So i bought another amp for a sub to go in.

Then i Bought a sub cause it was recommended and ridiculously cheap.

Search GT4 JBL on ebay and its 18.99 to collect down the road from me:)

then i realised i could build my own false floor and sub box so im not in that process. :)

see its adictive.

Anyway back to you , find out what kind of pre outs you got if its a speaker and sub which im 99.9% sure it will be then thats cool. A 4 channel amp would probs be best tbh as its least amount of work but i just liked the coolness of 2 amps

I recommend getting these then.

I would advise you get a JBL 75.4, use two channels for the fronts, and then buy a 4 ohm DVC sub for the other two channels or bridge them :)
