i wouldnt do that, as far as i know it doesnt take 12v! itl be somethinglike 3/5v and connect to a trasnsistor to turn the amp on....

Cigerette Lighter is fine actually. The remote wire is 12v ;)

Remote or Power Antenna Output
There may be one or more switched 12 volt outputs on your head unit. These outputs are usually called remote outputs. They are used to control power amplifiers or power antennas. If your unit has only one remote output, 12 volts will be sent through it when any audio source is being used (tuner, CD, tape, aux...). It will be 'hot' (have 12 volts on it) when the head unit is on. It will have no voltage when the head unit is off.

If the unit has two remotes, one wire (generally a dark blue wire with a white stripe* for aftermarket radios) will be for your power antenna and will only have 12 volts on it when you are using the tuner. It will have no voltage on it when the head unit is switched to CD, tape, aux or is switched off. This is so that your power antenna will go down when it is not needed. The second output (generally a dark blue wire* for aftermarket radios) will be marked amp remote (or amp turn-on) and will have 12 volts switched to it when any source is in use. The diagram below only shows a single remote wire. There is a diagram on the test light page that shows both types of outputs.

Please note that the remote wires for stock (OEM) radios will be of a different color (probably not blue). You can refer to the following page for the color code for your vehicle.

I connected my remote wire to my battery, fed it in through the gromit thingy and then put a little switch on it so I can turn it on and off when I want to (thanks to Martin for that idea!) Works great and means that I can listen to my stereo without subs if I want some quiet music or got a bangin head ache lol, and then switch it on when i want some loud bassy music

i'd hope so. you fuse EVERYTHING except tv's i was told.

is your switch hooked up to a relay, or is the switch in the power cable?

You could have just put the switch on the power cable then really lol!

cigerette lighter is the easiest source for an ignition feed mate ;) 4 screws either side of the lower centre console (around handbrake and gear lever etc). Slide it back, drop cable down back and hook up to positive on ciggy lighter ;)

i wouldnt like to have a switch in all that power... if he doesnt want to use relays - swithcing the remote lead is probably the next best thing, its only .3 amps or something lol

it just goes to show how much knowledge of car electrics i have doesn't it!
hehe! Mind you i've fitted plenty of car sound systems! And they all work fine, and haven't melted yet

yeah before i wired to ignition i just merged the constant power line with the remote line and then put a switch on the power line! the advantage of this was that the HU wouldn't switch off when there was no key but the disadvantage was that if you forgot to switch it off it would kill your battery!

this is a basic diagram of what my setup looks like (with regards to power supply only). just to let you know I am no expert lol and have used the search function and other members knowledge of ICE to help me set all this up. After looking at my diagram can someone tell me if i still need to fuse my remote wire or not and if i do need to, what fuse would i use? cheers in advance, chris. :P
