View Full Version : Would love some audio advice on what i need to make my Corsa produce a quality sound?
hi, right now in my old corsa i have some jl audio 525's coaxials
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_6581_JL+Audio+XR525-CXi.html
this is all i have in my corsa.
now as a total noob at this thing at the time i didnt know that component was the way to go.
however i was told that jl audio do make great speakers.
so for my new corsa c, do i keep these, or sell them and get component?
its important to know that i dont really want a massive audio system, like most i want quality.
i have succumbed to the fact that if i want a quality system i will need an amp and a sub of some sort. right now i dont have a bloody clue as what to buy.
i already have the headunit which is a alpine 9812, with an ipod adapter kit.
If im keeping my existing jl audio 525 (should i do this?) then which rear speakers, and amp plus sub should i get? for the sub i was thinking only 8" as i still want to use my boot. :)
i see many people are mentioning infinity and jbl, are these the standard issue brands that most go for?
as for budget i suppose, £300 max for the rear, amp and sub.
Any advice would be great
cheers

if your planning on replacin the rear speakers aswell (which is a pain in the ar**) then keep the coaxals and use them in the back. Tutorial Link (http://www.corsa-c.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=93359)
as for the front buy some 16.5cm components (infinity kappa are really good) and adaptors.
adaptors - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vauxhall-Corsa-Front-Door-Speaker-Adaptors-165mm_W0QQitemZ320149062533QQihZ011QQcategoryZ1879 9QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

as for sub and amp your better off waiting for one of the ICE experts to help. hope this helps you though!
sorry for sounding stupid mate but by rear you mean parcel shelf and not the rear doors? :)
if thery're a pain in the ass do many not bother with them?
also i presume the 5.25 would fit in the back door/parcel shelf? right?
cheers for the help anyway mate

lol by rear i mean to either side of the parcel shelf. if you look in your boot underneath the parcel shelf youll no where they fit. ye most people just cut the existing wire to shutup the crappy rears lol.
ye the rears are 5.25 (13cm). you need adaptors though (http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/vauxhall-rear-speaker-adaptors-p-497.html)
np mate:doublethumbs:
ok cheers ben, so these infinity kappa are def the way to go then? i presume you have listen to them in person? also would most people on here dynamat their speakers?

well from my expierience the kappa's are awesome. just do a search on components and see what other people reccomend. but lots of users on here have kappa and no complaints. again not sure on dynamat, ull have to search.
ok yeah these kappa's look the nuts. so for most these front speakers are more then enough are they? and they would still get an amp and a sub to go with them?
sorry for all the questions.

its ok mate.
ye mate, fronts comps, sub and amp should be really nice together. but amp the comps.
this is what im doing.
front comps - infinity kappa
sub - JBl GT4 (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/1184.html)
amp - JBL GTO-75.4 (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/2911.html)
have been told that it will all work well together.:doublethumbs:

Sorry to tell you mate that you won't be getting mazing quality for £300.
Here's a couple of ideas:
Use the speakers you already have for the rear speakers and get components in the front.
The best you can do brand new would probably involve:
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/jbl-gto7556-p-2788.html
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/dynamics-sd62-p-5523.html
As for sub, the range is pretty wide.
If you really want quality, go down the road that I did - 2nd hand. I got my Genesis Profile 4 £140
With such a small budget, consider buying bits in stages, say get the amp next and stick with the jl's in the front, then get the components and move the jl's to the rear, then get the sub.
Also think about the installation costs:
Speaker adapters
Subwoofer box
Amplifier wiring
Speaker wiring
Amplifier mounting
Sound deadening
...
cheers for the advice, when you say speaker wiring, do you mean kitting the car out with new wiring and not use what comes with the car?

Agreed 100% !
If you want 'mazing' quality you have to go second hand as Jack reccomends. He speaks the truth ;)
£300 is half what i paid for one amp, and that was second hand!
