All that needs is the correct diffuser putting in place and it will be coolio!

Have you spoken to Az before wacking the thread up?

not only does it need another diffuser but the 2 bulb version requires a bit of modding for it to look good

You should notice 2 kind of bowls for the original bulbs, cut the middle out, then you can push the LED circuit back a bit further, and will look better too ;)

Ah right cool, will deffo give it a try. Its not by any means az's fault hes built a superb little pcb does the job rightly! just my corsa being a nuisance :(

Saw the word seimens on the back of the mfd when I took it out knew i was in for fun lol. What did you use to hollow out the diffuser case it seems an awkward one to play with

Mart

yes Seimans ones are the b***ard ones tbh. We didnt at the time mate. I think Matt was going to use a dremmel or summit.

Mine is the 3 bulb version and requires no modification ;)

Pete
10-09-2007, 10:43
lucky for some :(
Ill have a little play around with it, cant go wrong with a dremmel :D
Makes sense though moving it back, didnt think of that- cheers!

Mart

Just detail re-read the initial thread where oddjob mentions the exact same problem.
Wonder if I could even buy a diff backbox for the LED mount.. the borg one..

Note to otherrr siemens mfd ppl, just be careful with the whole thing, the ribbon cable for the lcd screen is wrapped around the backbox so any strain and youll fubar it. Iv never took mine apart so it was first time and i seemed alright with my torx screwdriver
Only problem is the main wiring to the mfd, make sure to unclip it, theres a small arm over it that bends back (took me like 10mins to work it out :() then you can work with the unit in your hands much easier.

Apart from that, the PCB az made is top notch all soldering is dead on there and it truly is bright.
And hes right.. even though mines spotty as, the pictures do not reflect the quality of the light, its lush!

Nice one az!

It is a superb little unit and you aren't a nuisance; if you'd have let me know i'd have pointed you in the right direction quite happily ;)

i got the 2 bulb one aswell mate. i got out my dremmel and went mad on the white plastic bit then put the velcro fitting pads on. I nearly leveled the back of the plastic then ran the cable round the back of the bord and plugged it in a different way. If you want them i have some poor quality pics. after that i went with the thickest and standard diffuser and all was goooooooood mate.

I had no problems after i did this although dremmeling it is a bit of a pain and wasnt the neatest job i have done but it worked. Also if you do dremmel it put the screen and circuit bord in a bag so it doesnt get dusty and i found it helpfull to keep az's bord to hand so you can check the fit. you probably dont need to take it back as far as i did but with the velcro on it sat about half way into the white box. hope the pics help although i apologise for the quality digi cam is a bit trashed. James

Az.

I took an old customer (till) display unit apart today (was being thrown out by work) and am thinking of cutting this part down to size and sticking it in my MFD to see if that diffuses the light better to get rid of the bright spots from the green LED's... it's approx 5mm thick. Have used the LED's on my webcam to give you an idea of what it's like (it's also a slight tint of green!)

If it works ok I will see if there are any more old units from stock that are being thrown out. There should be plenty seeing as we are replacing a major high street DIY's chain's tills (nearly 700 systems in total)

Don't think it'll make a blind bit of difference. You need to mod the MFD.

...Also need to give me something ;)

Pete

I got acrylic today, pretty translucent stuff so gonna try that

Az
10-09-2007, 23:37
I've provided what i've found to be the best diffuser material at the correct distance in the MFD (i.e at the back)

Mart

word of warning though.

If you have the difuser too close to the LEDs they can melt it :look: as i found out

Shouldn't have tried forcing LEDs and Diffusers to make love then

Went DIY on it today :doublethumbs:
The siemens box is made of very soft plastic so a stanley knife and some rouuuugh sand paper just went through it.. much better.
