When amping my components to an external amp, what happens to the existing wire from the Headunit amp? Just left to dangle there?

cheers

smiffy1989
11-09-2007, 12:00
just put some insulation tape on it and leave it dangling.

might be better to tape it up to something as it might vibrate and make ghey noises.

thought so, cheers.

yer how did you run wire into the door??

Theres noway you can use standard wiring as some has to go from the crossover to the amp (in the boot)

it was simple really....

i took the glove box out, took the rubber thing in the door henge and then squeezed the wires through and insulated it.

u cant use the existing wires.because the wires from the hu are no longer needed and the signal will be now coming from the amp.

in that case all wiring will need to be changed in order to do it properly

ahh, i got it in my wiring kit, but i think you can probably get it off the bay or most diy shops.

something like this would work > http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/7mm-ID-CONVOLUTED-CONDUIT-WIRE-CABLE-TIDY-10-METRES_W0QQitemZ290137699711QQihZ019QQcategoryZ722 05QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotoh osting

look on here > http://motors.search.ebay.co.uk/conduit_Cars-Parts-Vehicles_W0QQ_trksidZm37QQcatrefZC12QQfromZR40QQfs prZ0QQsacatZ9800

it will depend on how thick your wire is to which one you will need as tyhey have different diameters:thumbs:

Not much, if at all (as long as the connections made are good). The biggest sources of distortion in an audio system are the speakers by a very long way.

the wires at the back of the hu no longer have anything to do with the comps thats why u run the new rca from the hu to the amp then to amp to the cross overs and cross overs to the comps....

ill go get them now :) u best wait coz im goin out to get pics

yer bt if you sourced where they go to the headunit, you could remove them and connect additional speaker wire to them and relocate the wire so it runs down the sides, that way it would have nothing to do with the hu it would just be wire - but already through the door for ya :D Im not doing that anyways, its just a possibility.

Cheers for getting the pics, im waiting :) (not to long tho, need sleep soon lol)

no because the wires from the HU are wired in the standard crossovers in the tweeter which is why it wont work coz u need to wire them to a different cross over

Also have you used sealent?

i haven't used sealent yet..wen i got time i will.

well basically i took out the glove box and ppulled out the rubber tubing and then squeezed the wire through, its a tight fit but good to seal

the rubber seal wont be sitting flush at the moment tho will it? Do you plan on just wacking loads of sealent round the gap created by the wire?

The reason that you dont connect it to the standard wiring is because its crappy thin wire. What would be the point of running good quality cable then connecting it to a really thin piece of crap ?

Ammt2 it is possible to do it that way, its just not a very good idea

jacko103
12-09-2007, 09:43

It's perfectly possibly to do this. It works and with the level of kit most people put in on this forum, it would be sufficient. However for setups like mine, Coops, Martin and the quality ones, the standard wire is a bit thin.

flinn_c+
12-09-2007, 12:00
how about just joining the amp wire to the connectors that go thru the door, so take off the wires that go from the hu to the black door connector bit n wire the amp to and from the door bit so no extra wires go from inside to the door? could even replace the bit of wire inside the bridge bit to some higher quality stuff so u save on the quality and get a much much better finish!

LOL @ Going to all that hassle for a JBL and Infinity setup.

I used the standard wire just wired it up behind the headunit using choccy blocks and it sounded mint went to high volumes and never burnt out/went on fire/got abducted by aliens.

Fair enough if your using JL audio etc but fook it for sub £100 budget gear.

just do it like i did it in this post (clicky me!) (http://www.corsa-c.co.uk/forum/showt...t=94750&page=3).

plus when your getting in the car is the only time you can see the black conduit and it doesnt look messy.

mine is now all tied down and i dont even notice it. and when the doors are shut (i.e. 99% of the time) you can't see the wire anyway.

here are new pics of the wire, nobody can argue that it looks messy because it simply doesnt;

i wouldnt say thats entirely neat as youve cut into the tweeter cover to put the wire through which can be seen

the cut where wire goes in is very very neat up close and the only time you can see that area of the door is if you sit in the position where the photo was taken and purposely look at the tweeter cover when the door is open, which ive got to say ive done zero times in my life.

And surely it gets trapped in the door seal everytime you close the door ?

the conduit doesnt look like it has been trapped as when i have looked at it there are no marks on it at all.
