poor signal from radio

i'v plugged the antenna into my new pioneer h/u and taped it in so it is notloose at al, but the signal quality of the radio seems to be realli poor. Is there anyway of making this better? I can still isten to the radio like but it will sometime be not very clear and quiet, and my original standard stereo has mcuh better signal and was much clearer?
