The DVI-9990 is the premier SQ orientated unit that Alpine currently makes. The TMI-M990 appears to make SQ compromises to incorporate the 7" screen (like the S/N ratio for audio - over 115dB on the DVI, only 50dB on the TMI).
What kind of price do the units retail for?
didn't ask about the screen but the dvi-9990 is 4k as far as i can remember
also what would be the difference then with the D310 as opposed to the TMI-M990
assuming it would just be SQ and better screen picture?

I'm guessing so. I have no experience with the units though. Not many people run Alpine F1 status equipment. I'm not sure if it is because the units are so pricey or because there are better products out there for the £££. I would assume the latter.
yeah could be, just that im preparing for IASCA already and was looking to upgrade the D310, i still need to spend 500 or so on an H700.
i wouldn't need one of these as the dvi-9990 comes with its own EQ. so considered saving the 500 for the H700, selling the D310 for say 500/600 then finding another £900/£1000 to buy either the dvi-9990 or tmi-m990

I haven't researched the super high end so I don't know about the choices. Off the top of my head though, I'd say Nakamichi and Becker.
Seems like a case to defer to www.talkaudio.co.uk
Go to the SQ forum and tell them everything and they will sort you out.

Oh yeah one more thing, If you've got £4k to spend on a head unit then WTF are you doing driving a Corsa???

well we all know nothing gets sold for the retail price ;) been offered it for 2k with free tuning for IASCA so just thinking whether the jump is worth it or not?
and i probably will sign up to talk audio i read it quite alot but never say much

Seriously, they are the best. LITERALLY. Many world champions are contributing members, as well as past legends and future hopefuls.
Bear in mind with the level of equipment you are moving up to, there are going to be fewer people capable of helping you and even fewer who are willing to help! You'll basically have to learn for yourself how to compile, set up, tune and optimize your system regardless of who is helping you along the way.

Pistonheads and other specialists. If I were you I'd start with a decent system and work your way up to the big £££ and competitions. There's no substitute for experience and lessons learned.
true, just going through my head that im running in rookie next year in IASCA, not looked at EMMA too much yet but think that the D310 will get me past that and more, and the offer will always stand, probably cheaper the more i compete with them and get to know them so i'll put it on hold. just sounded like a good deal to me :)

It sounds ok to me too, but I know very little about that kind of kit. Get on TalkAudio and see what they say.
