View Full Version : Guidence on how to get the wires through the door to amp your components (no 56k)
Did some more work on mine today so took some pics to help people out.

Needs more sealent on the above pic.
And a quick write up of how to do it, that i wrote in another post...
Door card off, then take the grommit/plug out (pull the red bit back), take both pieces out of the door, cut a slot to fit the wire through, bend back and cut off, file down as much as possible, Make a hole in the rubber plastic gromit attached to the car, inside and out, attact wire to screwdriver and push through from inside, will come out a small hole you made at bottom of rubber bit, put through slot and feed into door till you have enough, re assemble plug back onto door (difficult!) seal up with loads of sealent. cable tie wire to rubber bit to hold in place and stop it rubbing against the bare metal, do this inside and out, put everything back together. Job done
You should get the jist of it from that, hope it helps a bit

That reminds me that I (read: we) have to properly install my kit soon.

Done pretty much the same as you, but dont fancy sawing my car, so im going through the tweeter cover :) Ive took loads of pics, so i will upload when finished to show another method
Question: what sealent did you use, had a look in BnQ today, and was usnure what to get :\

theres a lot tidier way to do this crimp your new wire to the old wiring and pull it through using the old wiring nd voila your wiring is neat!

agreed
why isnt that rubber thing between the door just a big pipe with wires through instead of all these plugs and screw on bits :banghead:

I no my method isnt great, but the above is very ugly and very dangerous. It could easily catch on something.
Why dont you cable tie it to the rubber grommit?
agreed

Because then if you wanted to change or replace the door, you would have a major wiring job on your hands, with the plug, its basically just plug and play!
Its annoying i no

Agreed. I would recommend everyone not to do what ammt2 has done.

if u read above i said that i aint got round to doin it yet and i also need to seal it.
it doesn't catch at all and there is clearance when opening and closing the door.
explain to me how it is dangerous because i dont believe it is?!

theres nuthing unsafe about the way i have done it and all it needs doin is cable tie and sealent.not everybody wants to saw through the metal around the grommit so my solution may not be as neat but is another option taht is perfectly safe and functionable.
thank you and good night

agreed mate! i aint had a single problem yet and it looks more than tidy enough for me!
Ok ok. Dont forget to seal it up then!
It must get trapped in the door seal evertime the door closes yeah? As it starts of inside the car, then goes to the outside, then back in again.
This will cause wear and tear to the wire and the tubing. If over time, the wire splits, or the tube splits etc, or something pulls the tubing, e.g. a pissed mate puts his foot through it etc (unlikely i know but still possible). Then it shorts out the + and - terminals, this is going to cause damage to your amp.

lol probably the most likely way it'll get damaged lol.
it doesnt get trapped in the door, or if it does there as been no damaged casued to mine as of yet and i did about 3 weeks ago:doublethumbs:
Fair enough mate, if it works for you then fair play. But i much prefer my way, a lot neater! (and safer)

doesn't get touched
im gonna wrap it up in insualtor tape :D!
i wish my car was as easy as this. I have no way to get the power form battery to boot.
and cause my car actually has an engine in it i cant get round the engine bay for ****.

Fair enough.
IMO the more exposed wire you have, the higher the risk of an accident.
Example: I have seen photos of a bloke who routed his power cable under the car and didn't hide it well enough. The car ended up in an accident after it went over a bump and the power cord got caught. The battery and amp both got pulled clean off their mounts and both caused considerable damage to the surrounding parts of the car and both were destroyed.
Take your chances if you will, but I always like to minimize risks when I do a job.

i can see what everyone is getting at but the way mine is all tied down there is not enough slack for it to get caught on anything!
If it was safe to have the cable exposed running through that "space", then why did vauxhall design the plug?

Just finished feeding the wires into both doors today :)
I used a combination of the methods here. Followed Coops method pretty much, but theres noway im sawing my car, so im going through the tweeter cover. All the wires have been neatly wrapped around the existing rubber tube, and you can hardly notice it :D:D

I don't believe that, the cable would have come out of the amp terminal before ripping the amp off its mounts unless he attached it with bluetack. Passing the power cable under the car or down the skirts is perfectly acceptable as long as its secured properly and away from exhaust.
