    They found out that DERV engines do harm the environment just not in the same way as petrols, and not as much... I love its in my step dads Merc C220 CDTI when his gives it some welly after a weeks tralling about and there is a trail of black smoke! Click here to enlarge

    water is white smoke, turbo / oil is black, oil seals go in the turbo meaning oil can get into engine or exhaust manifold heats up and you get black smoke.

    well, it depends on where you are in America. California smog laws are very strict, stricter than ours iirc.

    the laws in california dont apply to diesel, only petrol cars are affected by smog laws.
