1.2 Fuel Economy

I've been driving my 03 Corsa 1.2 Manual SXi with 70K for about 2 months now, the fuel economy has always been bad no matter how I drive it.

Since then, it's been given a full service (has a full service history), wheel bearing replaced and been given a diagnostic check with no faults recorded by a garage. Never has any warning light come on in 4,000 miles and the car drives beautifully. I've also checked for leaks and found nothing. It's been into a garage for the fuel economy, they say there is nothing wrong. It has 4 brand new goodyear efficent grip tyres fitted all with correct pressures.

I understand the cold weather is guaranteed to reduce consumption, but yesterday I filled it up to the click and reset the trip. Since then I have done 37.9 miles today, mixed driving and it is now sitting on 3/4. I filled it up again, it took 12 litres so it averaged 14.3mpg today. I filled up last week, got down to half on 132 miles filled back up and it took 22 litres (average 27.8mpg). This is all with me driving it painfully slow and with economy always in mind. I simply can't afford to run a car which is so terrible on fuel. My friends have the same spec, engine Corsa and manage to get 90-100 miles from 10 quid worth of petrol.

I don't want to get rid of it, so does anyone know anything obvious or common that could be the problem?

Cheers, Alex

Driving slow doesnt make fuel economy any better

not all 1.2's are the same, it doesnt mean something is wrong

you can only do so much, service, check tyres, tracking, change driving style, etc

fill a full tank and drive up and down the motorway until its empty, see what mpg you get.. then you will know that your car is capable of getting good mpg and its more where and how you drive rather then a fault with the car

i would say it's your driving in that case tbh

you should think about how you drive, using the accelerator as little as possible and thinking ahead so you don't have to break too often or accelerate harshly

Will probably be the maf or an 02 sensor. Just work put your mpg by using a full tank and working it out from there. And just drive normally, not like a retard.
