I'm about to start my alloy refurb tonight, and bought OAKEY sandpaper. Ive got 60grade 80grade and 120grade and I wanted to know which one do I use to get the original paint of my alloys off, ready to primer? Ive also got 320grade which is 'super fine' grade for sanding the primered coat and the painted coat before washing and drying the wheels and then lacquering.

Help please! Which do I use to start with!? And is 320 OK to lightly sand after primered and painted!?!?!?

Any help will be GRRRRREAT!
thanks guys :bye:

do the alloys need any repairs? 60, 80 grit are going to take the alloy back to bare metal only need to key the wheels to put another colour ontop only need to primer if your taking the alloys all the way back, get the halfords project pack sandpaper going to need alot more fine grit paper if u decide to primer the alloys ur going to need a finer paper than u have to sand it before you apply the colour.

i followed this tutorial. http://www.corsa-c.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?208230-Painting-SRi-alloys
ive only done one so far as i'm swapping around the spare wheel.
so youre saying that i can just lightly sand the key areas and i can spray the paint straight on, and dont have to primer myself???
And is that method only for if the wheels dont need to be reconditioned... just for a respray?
thanks

You need to rough up the good paint i think so the primer has something to 'key' into.

So rough up the good paintwork, and sand back any pitting etc until its nice a smooth, then follow that tutorial above.
