I'd seriously ask around at some independents mate to see how much it will cost. I know the clio is a bit of a ******* to maintain engine wise but £900 for a belt change is a joke lol

I like to maintain a car to its fullest by always servicing, Moting and repairing the car at a main dealer, if you cant afford to maintain a car properly you shouldnt have it IMO

That's ******** sorry. I have my car serviced privately and save about £50 and he does a better job too.

I wonder why you save 50 quid? Non vauxhall approved parts? Non-vauxhall and poorley trained labour?
You get what you pay for at the end of the day, better maintained car and a full dealer serivce history is more disirable when you come too sell. I dont dispute you can get good indie garages but if you dont know any then its is risk to try them!

Did you get any insurance quotes on the 172? I've tried like a ***** and best I can get is between 2-3k, when im 19!!

Out of those cars i'd say the SRi as i'm in more or less the same position as you, and that's what i'm after ;)

There is maintaining a car properly.....then there is paying over the odds. But i'm not going to try and argue otherwise, it's your car and you've made the choice :thumbs:

I'd go for the C2....then 1.8....then zetec s

Well my parents have know the guy since they were 20 and he used to service my Dads escort RS2000 so...... :shrug:

Car seems to run very well and better service than the time I had it serviced at Vauxhall

Yeah lowest i got was from flux for about 2300! With 1yr 7 mt licence, 2 yrs NCB and nan on policy! Rapage!

the £50 is saved because the independent garage owner doesn't have to pay vauxhall a large cut every time.

Don't forget most of these garages are just franchises and have to pay an amount to vauxhall just to use their name. They pass this extra charge onto you.

The independent garage near me always uses genuine vauxhall parts. And he is one of the most highly qualified mechanics in hertfordshire.

It's the dealers that have the poorly trained people ;)

I'm in the same boat too mate.

Don't get a 1.8 SRi.... it's another Corsa at the end of the day with a chavvy image, rattley interior and handling similar to that of a fishing boat on rough seas.

I'm looking at a Polo GTi or a Skoda VRS or something... something German.

last time i went to a vauxhall garage i saw a 15 year old apprentice working on my car. that was the last time i had it serviced there. i fail to see how a kid who cant even get a license is fit to handle my car.

I always have it serviced at my local handyman in my home village as he is dirt cheap and been doing it for 40 years and you just dont find that at a main dealer.
