Hot water + window = crack


de-icer, and use pre-icer the night before.

 

I was told not to use boiling water as you can crack your screen. I use a jug of warm water usually and keep a can if de icer inthe car just incase It freezes while I'm at work and such places

 

i failed so hard this morning,
1st Fail. kept de-icer in the car and the doors and boot were frozen shut. LOL
2nd Fail. put the wipers on BEFORE defrosting, wiper arms moved the rubber stayed put , bugged them, had to buy new ones lol

 

if im at home and car is in the driveway i usually just turn the engine on with the heaters "pointed" at the window and the heated rear window on, clears in about 5/10 mins

 

I find putting the heating on the windscreen setting usually works

 

its great especially if you've slept in for work, quickly hop out turn the car on etc then back in for shower etc and off to work, win!

 

depends what kinda area ur in. where i am i reckon i could leave my doors open and not get robbed wouldnt fancy tryin it but i reckon i could but i dont reccomend it unless u use ur spare key to start the car and lock it wid ur main key bit more hassle less risk

 

I leave my key in the car sometimes and never lock it.

Although I would only recommend that if you live in the middle of 300 acres with only one neighbor and have electric gates and camera's .

When parked at my GF's id still worry if it had 4 wheel clamps on and the battery removed lol

 

Quick Clear screens ftw :thumbs: Old man has it on his mondeo and its awesome for clearing snow/ice. Switch in on when you start the car and its done in a few minutes, no cold hands or anything.

 

Jug of cold water and off you go :thumbs:

 

i put my heaters+de-mister on and get out the car coz its normally warmer outside than in :lol:

heater on, pre de-icer and de-icer + scraper in the mornings, keep a glass microfibre cloth in the glove box too

 

Warm the car up and inside whilst your getting ready for work is the best thing. 10 or so mins while you have a brew, no cold steering wheel, engine warmed abit, windows clear, inside warm =)

 

an old towel over the window the night before helps, i just throw some cold water over it if i cba lol
warm/hot/boiling water will crack your screen. too much of a temperature change will cause yoour window to expand to fast and crack :/

 

Boiling water won't crack the screen, because by the time the water reaches the glass it's been cooled by the melting ice

What ever you do don't leave the car unattended to warm up, heard on the news recently someone did this and someone jumped in the car and drove off.

Warm water is the best option.

 

I was abit worried about that before after work, left it running in the car park while we was in store getting changed lol

 

My theory is most car theives are too lazy to get up to work while normal people are, so youll be safe.

I couldn't do that, i would just sit in my car and freeze for it to sort itself out lol.

Start car up, heaters on full and rear windscreen heater on.

Get out and scrape the ice off using an ice scraper... making sure the wipers are not frozen stuck. Then use screenwash to melt the rest of it and wipe it away.

Then do front passenger and drivers windows... that all usually takes a few minutes, and cars starting to warm up a bit by then.



My dads Ford Focus was easy though, get in, start car, two buttons (front and rear windscreen heater/demisters) after 5-10 seconds the ice on the front windscreen has melted enough that the wiper blades will just wipe it all out the way

 

Usually de-icer and scraper in the mornings.

Wouldn't leave my car running where i live as ive heard someone's got nicked.

 

Just scrape it off ... heaters on and drive away making sure the wiper blades aren't frozen lol.
