I thought ud loose both if the head gasket was on its way out?

Probably not then. Get a pressure test done.

Get a compression test done on each cylinder. You may find one or two that has lost a bit of pressure. Now if your losing oil, it could also be the piston rings have worn. To find out, squirt a tad bit oil into the cylinders thats low on pressure. This will form a seal around the piston rings, and the compression should rise. If it does, then the piston rings are fooked. If it doesn't you need a new head gasket.
