Hi all,
Had several attempts at this, finally got my heating working.
This is how i flushed the heater matrix from the engine bay.

1. Take off expansion tank cap

2. Back of heater matrix, follow these two pipes to where they meet the engine block.

5. Make sure engine is cold, doing this part. Don't want to get scalded from the coolant.
Using wide nose pliers or pipe grips, loosen the clips holding the pipes on.
You may have to ease the pipe off with a screwdriver as your doing it.
When the pipes come off, coolant will spill out from connection.
Catch with tray or absorbent pillow.
I covered the electrical connections with cloths to protect them.

6. Using the nozzle from the water hose, insert it into one of the pipes.
Using a spare piece of hose, i inserted it into the other end to direct the water away from the engine.

7. When ready, open the water hose to flush the heater matrix.
This is the colour of the coolant as it came out.

Keep doing this until the water is clear.
The flow of the water should improve, the more it gets flushed.
Then change the water hose to the other side and do the other pipe.
This is when i realised, why my heating wasn't working.
I only flushed the one pipe and not the other.
The amount of gunk that came out was unbelievable!!
Once done, the flow of the water should match the other side.
If it only trickles out, the matrix is still blocked/clogged up.

8. Once your happy that both pipes are clear, re-connect them back to the engine.
Mop up any water/coolant that was spilt.

9. Using the correct water/coolant mixture, top up the expansion tank until it stops draining.
Making sure you leave the level at the line on the tank.

10. Leaving the the expansion tank cap off, start the car up to warm up the engine.
Make sure the heater panel is on warm and blowing.
Once engine gets warmer the coolant will start to drain from the expansion tank.
This is when you have to expel the air from the system.
Squeezing these two pipes (careful, will be warm!), you will either see bubbles or the coolant rising in the expansion tank.

After 5 minutes, checking the coolant level and topping it up when required.
Every now and then, squeeze the two pipes to expel any air.
Once happy, place the cap back on.

This is when, i took the car for a spin.
Within 1 minute of driving, the heating was working again.
I hope this works for you

Cheers

Cannot thank you enough for this tut mate. You've just saved me from 2 years without a heater haha. I collected all mess from pipes into a bottle to stop it going everywhere in engine and floor etc. I took this pic after the second flush through, was even worse first time round - and bearing in mind this was 2 litres worth thats been diluted with clean water, god knows what it was like before water hit it.

Engine temps now runnin where it should, right in middle and heaters are hot as hellllll. Didnt get warm until I took car for a spin and within a minute it was boiling. Most useful mechanic tut I've seen so far. Especially since it seems to affect so many people on here.
