hi I have followed a thread to remove a steering rack on a combo but the black plastic box in side is stuck would I have to lower the subframe to remove the rack thanks for any advice

Yes you at least need to lower the rear of the subframe in order to get the rack off the column once you have un done the pinch bolt inside the car at the bottom of the column by the floor.
