No country yomp today so I hope to clean up the ST rear door cards, although I won't install them yet because the speakers will be changed. I am hoping that doing so (they are in the boot) will finally get rid of a lingering ashtray smell that is getting worse as the car sits in the sun. If not, I shall have to redo the whole lot - seats and installed front door cards - with something more powerfully neutralising. It's getting nauseating. Also, with luck and some motivation, time to put on the summer alloys onto the Focus. Combo MOT is due in mid-May and I am wondering whether to activate it and lay up the Focus, run both, or just let the Combo expire until nearer to the time I actually need a LHD lugger.

My neighbour, who lost her husband last year, invited me to help myself in her garage clear out. Feels a bit vulture-like, especially given my skill set is more suited to the cheapo £7 socket and spanner sets I usually buy, but she was keen for me to take as much as possible. So I now have a top notch spanner set from tiny to fist-size, sockets of every description, a good torque wrench (very welcome, given my many wheels that I just randomly do up to "won't fall off" tightness) and what I recognise is a coil spring compressor but I know I would never actually attempt to use myself. A lot of other kit as well. Having friends for neighbours is a nice thing.

Not as spannery as z22se's day, but I gave the rear and (again) the front ST door cards a clean down. An orangey pre-wash degreaser followed by window spritzer. The nicotine and particularly tars from the seller's rollies will be quite oily so I figured it needed something more than a dashboard cleaner. Like Pringles, I couldn't stop and the interior of the Combo got a good surface cleaning. Doors have been open a long time but I think the ashtray stink has gone.

Secondly, partly because their rattle in the boot was annoying me, I put these sill guards on

I know: ST bling on a 1.6LX is a bit Riiicer! but the Mrs Oz side, in particular, has suffered from 15yrs of stilettos (I don't wear them when driving - before you ask) and used ST ones are £10-15/pair whereas some aftermarket 'Ford' jobs would probably be double that. I'll keep the doors shut when the Fast Car fashion police come by.

Taken rather too long to get around to this, but the alloys and summer tyres (tbf, the M+S are fine anyway) on the Focus. My back's getting a bit old for wheel changes. I also put the batt back in the Combo Tour. It's still on SORN and MOT expired because there's still no Euro-trekking on the horizon but I might need to move it around the drive. Started first turn despite the nearly 1yr layup and I took advantage of the well-functioning AC to use one of those Simoniz spray bombs with the recirc on and doors closed. Seems to have got rid of that musty smell but we'll see.

Nice upgrades on your Tigra. For the record, the Tour smells nice and neutral 24hrs on. No artificial spray-mask-odour, just a nothing at all smell. A great result assuming it's maintained.

Bad smells in cars can be hard to remove. The Tigra smelt bad, turned out it was the leather seats. Replaced them now and smell has gone. (y) :)

Yes, the Exclusivs I put in the Tour are real mould-gatherers but I think it was the headlining that trapped the aroma. CBA with scrubbing all that so the can-bomb saved me some effort. As mentioned before, the Ford's Recaros and door skins are really holding onto the previous guy's Golden Virginia. Multiple scrubs but opening the door in the hot sun and a fair waft has to be let out for 30s or so before I want to drive off. Leather is a blessing and a curse (and pretty hot thighs in my shorts).

I was glad of the cloth seats in the Tigra yesterday for sure 😂 🔥
Smoke is a hard smell to get out of a car, along with damp dog. One of my Corsa's was a smokers car and a dog owners. I stripped it bare and left the insides out in the fresh air for a few weeks, washed them all and scrubbed the carpets, replace a few bits that had worn bad like the steering wheel (hands stunk of **** are a short drive) Still get the odd whiff of smoke after a hot day when you open the doors.
We had a tractor once where the driver smoked cannabis while at work in it, you almost got stoned with the A/C on 😂 citrus smoke bombs left in the cab with filters out and 3 repeat goes did make it smell a bit better.

Crop circles finally explained (some of them rather creative - like The Beatles best work).

Welcome to CCUK, Carbonkilla. Nice job - I especially like the exhaust; wish a decent looker for the Combo existed at sensible money (can't justify spending on a custom).

I have one. £2.90 from Singapore via ebay. I know they're frowned upon but I don't have much choice as the "need viagra" drooping rusty spout of the standard Combo variety does look pretty dismal.

In the UK, many modifications are allowed that do not affect the annual inspection (MOT/ITV) but, in many European countries, a lot of tiresome paperwork is involved (e.g., homologacion for a towbar - in the UK it is perfectly OK for the owner to just fit one if they feel the need). For this reason, there are many more aftermarket items available that people are able to buy without worrying that an inspection will declare it non-standard (as long as the catalyst is present and the noise is not excessive).
