dashboard lights very dim

At night when I put my headlights on the interior dashboard lights are very dim, they barely look like theres any lighting there at all. The radio/cd display is lit up more in the day than at night when the headlights are on. The fan controls are barely visible at night, the speedo, temp, petrol, etc are the same, theres hardly any illumination at all in the dark.

Anybody got any ideas why and how to fix it? Thanks

exactly what was pointed out...I didnt know what either of the dials were for that are by the lightswitch and id only ever messed with em during the day and not noticed any changes so id left em both set at halfway to play it safe.

...and now I cant find my hat with the big 'D' on it!
