there is a tap on the bottom corner drivers side of the radiator, or just open the bottom hose.

a stat is easy and cheap enough to do, if its never been changed, or ya dont know it has, not going to break the bank, assuming you let the car get up to temp, m son had same problem on his corsa c few years back, garage changed water pump, think i remember that cured the problem, it never used to over heat 🤷‍♂️
